The ideal candidate would be able to:

Regular Responsibilities:

• Assist the Consultant Neurosurgeon in diagnosing and treating neurosurgical patients.
• Perform detailed history-taking, physical examinations and preliminary assessments of patients.
• Ensure the timely and accurate admission, monitoring and discharge of neurosurgical patients.
• Provide post-operative care, monitor recovery and assist in managing post-surgical complications.
• Assist the neurosurgical team in the operating room for neurosurgical procedures.
• Prepare patients pre-operatively by ensuring all necessary investigations and documentation are complete.
• Participate in surgical rounds, attending cases as directed by the Consultant Neurosurgeon.
• Perform and assist in diagnostic procedures related to neurosurgery, including but not limited to lumbar puncture, ICP monitoring and ventriculostomy.
• Assist in managing patients with head injuries, spine injuries, brain tumors, vascular disorders and other neurological conditions.
• Provide emergency care to neurosurgical patients, including stabilization and initiating treatment plans.
• Participate in the hospital's on-call roster for neurosurgical emergencies.
• Maintain accurate and thorough medical records for all neurosurgical patients.
• Prepare discharge summaries, progress notes and relevant documentation as required.
• Ensure all medical records comply with institution’s standards and regulations.
• Engage in clinical research in neurosurgery and contribute to publications and case reports.
• Stay updated with the latest developments in neurosurgical care and contribute to the department's research activities.
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, anesthesiologists and other medical professionals, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Participate in departmental meetings, mortality reviews and case discussions.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers to explain diagnoses, treatment plans, and post-operative care instructions.
• Educate and inform patient/family of necessary treatment plan and any follow-up appointments.
• Assure quality and continuity of care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Align with goals and objectives of department/Organization.
• Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all FMIC rules and regulation.
• Any other assignment by immediate supervisor/Head of the department.

Periodic Responsibilities:

• Participate in teaching and training programs for junior medical staff and interns in the neurosurgery department.
• Attend workshops, conferences and other educational sessions to stay updated with current neurosurgical practices.
