About Turquoise Mountain:

Turquoise Mountain is a non-profit, non-governmental organization specializing in urban regeneration, business development, and education in traditional arts and architecture. We seek to provide education, skills and livelihoods to Afghan men and women. Since 2006 Turquoise Mountain has cleared 45,000 cubic meters of rubbish from the streets, restored or built 150 historic and community buildings, created a primary school and a clinic, and installed water, electricity, and sanitation through the historic traditional craft neighborhood of Murad Khani in the old city of Kabul. It has created the internationally accredited Institute for Afghan Arts & Architecture, training the next generation of craftsmen and women in woodwork, jewelry and gem cutting, calligraphy and miniature painting, and ceramics. Finally, it has sold over US$15,000,000 of Afghan artisan products internationally.

Job Descriptions:

Context
The Marketing and Graphic Designer Officer will be responsible for creating visually compelling marketing materials, including promotional designs, branding, product photography, and product packaging. Additionally, the role includes a focus on providing marketing support, including assisting in creating online content, helping businesses with their social media presence, and offering practical insights into their marketing strategies.

Roles and Responsibilities
Graphic Design (50% of Role):
•    Create high-quality visual content for promotional materials such as product catalogs, flyers, brochures, posters, banners, and digital ads to promote products and services of supported businesses.
•    Design and refine branding elements (logos, color schemes, typography, etc.) for businesses, ensuring consistency across all marketing materials.
•    Develop social media posts, banners, and graphics for digital platforms, ensuring alignment with the business branding and engaging target audiences effectively.
•    Create assets that can be used both online (social media, websites) and offline (events, print advertising), ensuring quality and consistency across all formats.
Marketing Support (20% of Role):
•    Assist businesses in developing a strong social media presence by creating content calendars, posting regularly, and engaging with the audience.
•    Help businesses implement online marketing campaigns by preparing digital ads (e.g., Facebook, Instagram ads), tracking campaign performance, and providing basic reporting on reach, engagement, and conversion.
•    Collaborate on writing and designing content for websites, blogs, and social media posts, ensuring messaging is consistent and relevant for target audiences.
•    Conduct basic research to help businesses understand current market trends and customer preferences, providing insights for product positioning and marketing strategies.
Product Photography (20% of Role):
•    Capture high-quality images of products for promotional purposes, both for digital and print media. This includes shooting products in a professional and appealing manner, maintaining high standards in lighting, composition, and image editing.
•    Edit and enhance photos to ensure they are optimized for online and print use, maintaining consistency with the branding guidelines.
•    Collaborate with businesses to understand their product’s unique selling points, and craft visual stories that highlight the quality, features, and uses of the products.
Product Packaging Design (10% of Role):
•    Design creative and functional packaging for products that align with the brand’s identity, attract consumers, and comply with relevant regulations.
•    Develop concepts for product packaging that stand out on shelves and appeal to the target audience, while also ensuring practicality and functionality (e.g., for shipping, handling, or retail display).
 

Job Requirements:

•    Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Photography, Marketing, or a related field.
•    At least 3 years of experience in graphic design, product photography, product packaging, and visual content creation and marketing.
•    Proficient in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and photography tools.
•    Experience with product photography, including lighting, composition, and editing (Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop).
•    Knowledge of packaging design, including familiarity with materials, production processes, and sustainable practices is an advantage.
•    Experience with digital marketing practices, including digital marketing content creation and basic ad management
•    Excellent visual and creative skills with attention to detail.
•    Strong understanding of branding principles and how to create consistent, engaging visuals.
•    Familiarity with the Handicraft businesses, and cultural distinctions in design and marketing is an advantage.
•    Knowledge of Ms office software (Excel and word)
•    Dari, Pashto, and English preferred
