WVA targets the most vulnerable in its interventions; including children, women, Internally Displace Persons (IDPs), and returnee refugees, as well as the most impoverished and marginalized families. These priorities have been chosen to contribute to our Goal of: “Improved survival and well-being of Afghan girls and boys, building the foundations for a better future for Afghan children and their communities.” 

Our work is well established in Herat, Badghis, Ghor, and Faryab provinces in the western region of Afghanistan. We work closely with all levels of society including children, parents, teachers, village councils, religious leaders, ministries, provincial departments, and other national and international agencies.

Job Descriptions:

JOB PURPOSE:

The Earthquake Response Project aims to meet the emergency health service needs of communities in earthquake-affected areas of Herat Province. Its objective is to reduce morbidity and mortality rates among women, girls, boys, men, and persons with disabilities (PLWD) in these areas.

This is a full-time Community Health Promoter position for ER project based earthquacke response area of Herat province. Introduce the program to the communities, community/health shuras. CNWs orient the communities on the project scope of work and develop health and  nutrition education session schedule and follow up SAM and MAM cases as well as the malnourished PLWs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Assist with triage of clients at the health center to support timely access to health and nutrition services.
  • In consultation with other healthcare providers, develop a health and nutrition education schedule tailored to community needs.
  • Conduct daily health and nutrition education sessions addressing key issues such as breastfeeding, hygiene, immunization, malnutrition, and disease prevention.
  • Record and document each education session conducted for monitoring and reporting purposes.
  • Provide ongoing support to Community Health Workers (CHWs), Family Health Action Groups (FHAGs), and Health Shuras, particularly on community-based health and nutrition interventions
  • Assist in infection prevention and control (IPC) within the health facility environment.
  • Introduce and explain the health and nutrition program to community members, Health Shura members, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of the project scope and services.
  • Follow up on cases of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), including malnourished pregnant and lactating women (PLWs), and ensure appropriate referrals and support.
  • Develop and maintain a list of eligible children and women for routine immunization services in collaboration with health staff and community structures.
  • In coordination with Health Shuras, identify and orient project beneficiaries, equipping them to recognize signs of malnutrition and refer cases to health facilities.
  • Promote public awareness on key health and nutrition issues through targeted communication and community engagement activities.
  • Participate in data collection and reporting on community-based health and nutrition activities as required by the project
  • Support any field or administrative tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with community leaders and shura members to gather local security information and update the team on potential risks or changes in the operating environment.

Job Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE:

Required Professional Experience:

  • At least two years’ experience working in nutrition and health promotion activities
  • Experience in Survey, Research and Studies.

Work flexibility. Required Education,training, license, registration, and certification

Graduated from nursing or midwifery program is prefered

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications :

  • Nutrition / health background is preferred.
  •  Ability to plan and execute training programs.
  • Good time management and scheduling skills.
  • Honesty and personal integrity.
  • Skills in carrying out monitoring and supervision of programs at the community level.
  • Communication skills and knowledge of local communities.
  • Strong skills in oral and written English and Farsi

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

This is 100% designated field job (Provision of primary health care services in composition of Fixed health team in the targeted districts, Since the position deals with villages leaders, district governors, CDC members and local actors, the male candidates are preferred.
