Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose

The Child Protection Coordinator will directly report to the Senior Project Manager-Consortium, he/she will provide overall technical leadership, planning, program implementation support, coordination and monitoring, documentation of implementation of case management and community led protection intervention components of SHAPE -FCDO project. The Child Protection Coordinator will ensure that case management and community led protection activities are consistent and align with War Child UK’s programming principles/objectives and approaches as well as with Child Protection minimum standards/SOPs and guidance notes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Program implementation support

  • Prepare, update, and implement project work plans monthly or quarterly to guide the team in the implementation of the project activities.
  • Organize joint planning sessions with the project staff and share with them plans and responsibilities.
  • Develop and review activity-based TORs/Concept notes.
  • Prepare regular reports on budgets and expenditures to track spending and take corrective action if necessary.
  • Provide overall leadership in managing and coordinating the implementation of planned activities.

 

Provide technical support, and supervision.

  • Ensure a coherent approach to quality community-led protection programming in line with the CPMS and WCUK guidelines/approaches.
  • Ensure synergy of child protection interventions with other child protection interventions including case management and PSS by designing and coordinating actions

 

Capacity Strengthening and Human Resources:

  • Provide strong and positive leadership to the Child Protection teams in implementation of the Child protection interventions.
  • Ensure, technical capacities of field level Child Protection staff are enhanced to meet the requirements of expected project implementation.
  • Setting performance objectives, monitoring and timely provide appropriate feedback to promote growth and professional development.
  • Technical management of staff/teams who are implementing Child Protection activities, monitoring program quality by technically guiding field implementation.

 

Coordination and Representation

  • Strengthen and maintain effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders including community members, NGOs, government authorities and UN agencies in the implementation of Child Protection Interventions.
  • Ensure that WCUK’s work is coordinated with efforts of other agencies and government/authorities and represents WCUK in advocacy activities against children.
  • Coordinate planning and implementation of child protection activities with partner staff
  • Represent and share updates of Community-led protection activities to the relevant government departments, maintain regular contact and good relations and regularly update them on the progress of the project implementation.

 

Monitoring, documentation, and reporting

  • In coordination with MEAL develop and improve monitoring and evaluation systems for child protection ensuring that the program teams in the field actively monitor established indicators and evolving concerns in the target communities.
  • Ensures good documentation and custody of information of different child protection activities by WCUK and partner staff including progressive reports and case studies.
  • Coordinates closely with the War Child UK and partner’s Monitoring and Evaluation Department on M and E requirements of the project
  • Monitor the timely implementation, financial management and reporting of child protection and in compliance with donor requirements.

 

Budgeting and budget management

Ensure resources including financial, human resources, and equipment are utilized for the purpose at the WCUK and partner staff.

 

Safeguarding and Child protection.

Contribute to creating a culture committed to the safeguarding of children and adults and compliant to War Child’s Child Safeguarding and Adults at Risk Policies.

Job Requirements:

Experience and mandatory criteria:

  • Education qualification of a bachelor’s degree in humanities like Law, Development studies, social sciences, etc, and certificates in child protection is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in child protection programming and management, more especially in community-led protection MHPSS and case management strategic interventions in a humanitarian setting with NGO/INGOs.
  • Has good understanding /knowledge and experience of risks children have been exposed to in a conflict, drought, and natural disaster like earthquakes.
  • Good knowledge and demonstrated skills in applying inter-agency child protection minimum standards including SOPs and guidelines on case management.
  • Good experience in building positive relationships with UN Agencies/INGOs and government when implementing child protection strategic interventions like case management.
  • Ability to develop the capacity of the child protection team to effectively implement strategic child protection intervention activities like PSS.
  • Good skills and knowledge in developing quality reports, good analytical skills for case management trends analysis.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and work to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, in written English and local languages.
  • Strong organizational, technological, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems and facilitate effective decision making.
