Job Summary:


The Senior Project Officer (Health and Nutrition) will be responsible for the overall planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the health and nutrition project (ECHO). They will work closely with the project manager and project team, partners, to ensure the effective delivery of health and nutrition interventions, in line with established guidelines and standards. The Senior Project Officer will provide technical and administrative expertise, supervise project staff, and contribute to capacity-building efforts within the team.

Responsibilities:

  1. Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of health and nutrition projects, particularly the ECHO project, ensuring compliance with project objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  2. Provide technical guidance and support on health and nutrition interventions, including maternal and child health, nutrition promotion, disease prevention, and health system strengthening.
  3. Conduct assessments and analyses to identify health and nutrition needs, gaps, and opportunities for program improvement.
  4. Develop detailed project work plans, in collaboration with the project manager and project team, and oversee their effective implementation.
  5. Coordinate and collaborate with partner organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure integrated and coordinated health and nutrition services.
  6. Supervise and mentor project staff, providing guidance, feedback, and support to enhance their technical capacity and performance.
  7. Monitor project activities, progress, and achievements against set targets, and take corrective actions as needed.
  8. Ensure the timely collection, analysis, and reporting of project data, and contribute to project reports and documentation.
  9. Support the development and implementation of behavior change communication strategies and community mobilization initiatives to promote health and nutrition behaviors.
  10. Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to design and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks, tools, and systems for effective project monitoring and learning.
  11. Stay updated on emerging trends, research, and best practices in the field of health and nutrition and apply this knowledge to project design and implementation.
  12. Contribute to the development of project proposals, concept notes, and other relevant documents related to health and nutrition programming.
  13. Participate in relevant meetings, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives to enhance professional growth and contribute to the overall success of the project.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, nutrition, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in implementing health and nutrition projects, preferably in a humanitarian or development context with international or UN agencies.
  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of health and nutrition interventions, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Experience in project planning, coordination, and management, with a track record of successful project implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building and mentoring of project staff.
  • Knowledge of health system strengthening approaches and community-based health and nutrition programs.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation principles and tools for health and nutrition projects.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications and software for data management and reporting.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, as required.

Location:  Kabul with frequent travel to the field.
