Job Descriptions:

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support the work of security guards and ensure effective performance and adherence to security standards.
  • Arrange regular meetings with guards regarding their tasks.
  • Provide security briefings for new hires to ensure that they are well-informed about organization security protocols, procedures, and measures.
  • To monitor the security equipment such as alarms, surveillance cameras, and motion detectors to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • Regularly conduct Fire, Earthquake, and Complex attack drills in all Afghanaid premises.
  • Overseeing the inventory of safe room supplies and ensuring they are replenished as required.
  • Provide daily security clearance for all staff movements, both by air and road, between Kabul and other provinces with close collaboration of regional security focal points.
  • Ensure that staff is consistently tracked throughout their road travel between Kabul and provincial capitals.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, UN agencies, INSO, and other INGOs to improve security information for Afghanaid staff and operations.
  • To manage door access control systems and ensure proper identification and screening of all visitors and vehicles entering Afghanaid premises in Kabul.
  • Ensure prompt follow-up on security incidents in Kabul and effectively communicate the details to all Head Office staff via SMS, Email, and direct calls, in the role of a warden.
  • To prepare guard's timesheets, and overtime sheets and submit them to HR.
  • Assist the Head of Security in organizing and conducting security training sessions.
  • Perform any other related tasks assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirements:

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education & Professional Qualification

A bachelor’s degree in a similar field, Political Science, or Military School is preferred, but candidates who have passed 12th Grade and possess five years of working experience will be considered.

Work Experience

At least 5 years of work experience as a security professional with NGOs, government, and UN agencies are preferred.

Afghanaid seeks a responsible and dependable Security Officer with strong initiative, judgment, and adaptability as well as excellent skills in communication, organization, interpersonal relations, decision-making, and reporting.

Specifically, the holder of this position should also demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective security operations for the protection of staff, property, and data.
  • Knowledge of using HF, VHF radio, Thuraya sets, and security codes.

  • Ability of remain calm while under pressure.
  • Thorough knowledge of security protocols, risk assessment, and emergency response procedures
  • Strong understanding of the local security landscape, threats, and mitigation strategies in Afghanistan
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions in critical situations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with staff, partners, and local authorities
  • Experience providing security briefings and training to international and national staff
  • Demonstrates a systematic and efficient approach to work.
  • Flexibility and proven team player with the ability to cultivate and maintain good working relationships with colleagues within the organizations.
  • Experience in relating to and work with people of different culture, gender, and backgrounds.
  • Strong analytical skills and sound judgment.
  • Computer skills: MS Office, MS Outlook, Teams
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and a strong knowledge of the local language is essential.

 

Desirable

  • Master degree in the relevant filed.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate various types of vehicles
  • Willingness to work in remote and potentially hazardous locations within Afghanistan
  • Familiarity with NGO security management policies and procedures is an advantage
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multicultural and diverse team
  • Formal security management training or certification is preferred
