Terre des hommes Lausanne (Tdh) is a Swiss child welfare foundation, providing assistance and protection to vulnerable population worldwide. Tdh has been working in Afghanistan since 1995 and carry out projects related to Child Protection, Mother and Child Health and Livelihood Programs in Kabul, Kandahar, Herat & Nangarhar provinces.

The Nutrition Counselor is responsible for providing Screening (scale measurement) of children under 5 years of age and PLW regularly to receive cases of malnutrition. 

• Screening of the children underage of 5 for malnutrition
• Screening of the PLW for the malnutrition
• Treating children suffering from severe and moderate acute malnutrition
• Complete growth monitoring for children U5 and PLW.
• Refer complicated case of SAM to the advance health facilities in Nangarhar province

Duties & Responsibilities

• Facilitating nutrition issues according to the division of time for health education of the mobile health and nutrition team for clients at the village level.
• Registering cases of malnutrition and promoting their treatment
• Distributing nutritional materials according to the national nutrition guidelines
• Regular reporting according to the national nutrition guidelines
• Working together with the Nutrition nurse in serious cases, cooperating with doctors in urgent cases and other cases that are necessary.
• Regular and accurate care of treating patients based on job responsibility,
• Decent and active participation in nurse-midwifery educations and trainings.
• Performing additional tasks (related to the health center services) is requested by the relevant manager.
• Conduct health assessment on tuberculosis for patients
• Health advertisements and awareness about this disease for patients and other visitors

Before the examination:

• Checking the cleanliness of the needed materials.
• Preparing materials during work (gloves, sterilizing materials, etc.)
• Regulating the entry of patients based on their priority.
• Providing health instructions to the clients according to the specific time division.

During the examination:

• Giving supplementary information to the patient about their problem.
• Providing information and messages about the use of nutritional substances
• Accurate explanation of the problem to the patient, if necessary, ask the doctor for help.
• Accurate and correct dressing, taking into account the sterilization conditions.
• Schedule a meeting again if necessary.
• Preparing and delivering monthly reports to the relevant supervisor at a certain time.
• Provide weekly and monthly report

Child Protection

• Child Protection: Use observation skills to detect any behavioral changes or specific vulnerability in children that may be reason for concern and share these observations with immediate supervisor and social workers team at joint weekly staff meetings to determine appropriate responses.
• Ensure that all child protection related activities are in line with child protection minimum relevant standards and enhance program / activities based on CPMS.

Safeguarding Policy (Global Code of Conduct)

• Global Code of Conduct (GCC) Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP), Policy on the Protection from sexual exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), Directive on staff misconduct at workplace and GBV, Operational Risk Management: Undertake to adhere to the Terre des hommes safeguarding policy and the principles connected to children's rights
• Undertake to ensure the best possible practical implementation of the safeguarding policy (Global Code of conduct) and the management of operational risks in his/her area of intervention and within his/her team.
• Make sure all volunteers, visitors sign / understand Tdh Clobal code of conduct at a glance and my commitment to child safeguarding.

Safety & Security

• Conduct field visits with the consent of line manager who check the security of the area prior.
• Report instantly if you observe any security threat, heard any report any suspicion, rumors about the Safety of the staff and its beneficiaries
• Strictly follow Tdh security policy and regional security plan.
• Ensure and facilitate prompt sharing of information and action on all events relating to security issues

• Minimum three (3) years of experience, preferably in a remote site.
• Graduated from nursing or midwifery institute
• Practical experience in the field of Nutrition.
• Has good knowledge of indicators for and the consequences on type of abuse, exploitation and violence on children.
• Is able to present project health activities concerns verbally and in writing.
• Has good understanding of report writing.
• Be able to communicate national language Pashto and Dari
