War Child flagship Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women and their families through its Justice, Education and Opportunity programs with child protection and gender across all its programs. The Afghanistan Country Program is currently undergoing an exciting expansion with newly secured long-term funding for programs in eight provinces Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balkh, Kundoz, Takhar, Logar and Badakhshan, and will expand its program to other new provinces.

Job Descriptions:

  Position summary

The psychosocial counselor is directly responsible for the provision of psychosocial services at MCHC. The detailed job description is mentioned below.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for day-to-day management and supervision of the Health Care to the mothers and Children MCHC.
  • Ensure the MCHC guidelines are followed in all activities of MCHC.
  • Provide PSS case management, including referral to any other available services (health, specialized mental health, etc.) when requested by the client.
  • Regular and continuous follow-up of clients registered in the MCHC.
  • Provide individual and group psychosocial support to women and girls to help them cope with the trauma reactions.
  • Provide psychological first aid (PFA) and assess the needs of clients through one-to-one sessions.
  • Responsible for maintaining and confidentiality of all registered documents.
  • Compile and share weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting with the relevant person/Technical Manager.
  • In consultation with the technical manager, provide technical support to all MCHC activities, and community mobilizers.
  • Based on the request of the authorized person, attend and participate in all relevant meetings/training-related meetings to the program's purpose.
  • Ensure that all work with clients is kept confidential and that ethical practices are always followed.
  • Process request and purchase requests for the MCHC needy supplies and ensure MCHC supplies are constant and are used properly.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification:

Academic Background and Knowledge/ Experience:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree preferably in relevant discipline (Psychology, Counseling, Social Work) or can consider a midwife with two years extensive experience in PSS field for remote location and where the IPs could not onboard the candidate with bachelor’s degree.
  •  At least 2-3 years of field experience within a Humanitarian NGO/Agency in the same or similar position.
  • Extensive experience providing psychosocial support to individuals and groups.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Skilled at working as a team member.
  • Possess group facilitation skills.
  • Able to speak/write in Pashto and Dari with clarity and ease.
  • Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent computer, MS office skills
  • Good reporting writing skills   
  • Culturally sensitive and keep confidentiality
