The IRC opened the country program in Afghanistan in 1988. Our programs span the range from humanitarian relief to early recovery and development activities, focusing on child protection, education, economic wellbeing, health, and power. The IRC works in 10 provinces throughout Afghanistan, among which some of the most security volatile, and employs over 1000 staff.

Job Descriptions:

1.Project Management:

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of livelihood projects in alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Develop and manage detailed project work plans, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.

2. providing Training:

  •  Preparation and Arranging exhibition opportunities conducting and leading business Exhibitions, Inviting Customers, and Facilitating B2B (business to business) linkages.
  • Provide business training to increase women’s confidence in becoming more involved in decision-making, income generation, and customer identification, and provide and link beneficiaries with suppliers.
  • Prepare the cash payment documents and collaborate with the partner to ensure a smooth cash payment process.

3. Strong Reporting Skills:

  • Generate comprehensive and internal reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Utilize data and evidence to prepare success stories, case studies, and lessons learned.

4. Community Engagement and Capacity Building:

  • Engage with communities to identify livelihood needs and opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver capacity-building initiatives, including training sessions and workshops.

5. Partnership Development:

  • Foster and maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, implementing partners (IPs), and community-based organizations.
  • Collaborate with partners to leverage resources and expertise for program success.

6. Innovative Program Design:

  • Contribute to the design of innovative and sustainable livelihood interventions.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in the livelihood sector.

7. Gender and Social Inclusion:

  • Integrate gender-sensitive and socially inclusive approaches into program design and implementation.
  • Ensure the active participation of marginalized groups in program activities.

8. Adherence to Standards:

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements.
  • Uphold ethical standards and promote a culture of transparency and accountability.

9. Coordination and Communication:

  • Coordinate with internal departments and external partners to facilitate program synergies.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, beneficiaries, and stakeholders.

10. Other Duties:

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

            Additional/Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote local economic recovery for livelihood improvement, employment creation and food security of vulnerable households and communities.
  • Support inclusive economic growth with a focus on creating an enabling environment for market access.
  • Developing and encouraging linkages between producer groups and other market actors (wholesalers, processors).
  • Support the ERD Field Team and Facilitate strategic decision-making, such as village/community selection, beneficiary selection criteria, and support modalities.
  • Liaise with relevant vocational service providers to offer tailored vocational training at different levels (based on the results of the vocational needs and job market analyses), to be responsive to existing education and experience levels among the impact group.
  • Participate in various field assessments and surveys including needs assessment, baseline surveys, and pre-post distribution surveys.
  • Provide technical support to provincial and country offices on sustainable livelihoods through both periodic and ad-hoc assistance to field colleagues, including frequent field visits to sites.
  • Recommend new initiatives that will have a greater impact on the livelihood activities of the project.
  • Participate in all internal and external (coordination) meetings representing the project.
  • Establish and maintain a firm relationship with the MAIL, MoEc, and other relevant departments for issues related to the project implementation and activities.
  • Ensure the achievement of outputs in line with the approved work plan through the day-to-day planning, management coordination, and implementation of activities.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as International Development, Economics, Agriculture, or any other related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years of progressive experience in livelihood program management, Cash based programming preferably in a development and or humanitarian context.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, MEAL, and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex projects from inception to completion.
  • Strong background in designing and implementing MEAL systems for development programs.
  • Experience in preparing, managing, and monitoring program budgets.
  • Strong Reporting Skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of producing high-quality reports.
  • Ability to engage effectively with communities, assess their needs, and design responsive interventions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Creative and innovative approach to program design and problem-solving.
  • Gender and Social Inclusion Awareness:
  • Understanding of gender and social inclusion issues and a commitment to integrating these considerations into program activities.
  • Knowledge of conflict-sensitive approaches and the ability to apply them in program contexts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
