Job Descriptions:

Scope of work: 

The Senior Communications Officer (Media and Web) will play a crucial role in enhancing ASLO’s visibility, branding, media relations, and public outreach. This role is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans, managing ASLO’s digital platforms, producing high-quality multimedia content, and building strong relationships with media outlets and key stakeholders. The position requires expertise in communication strategies, content creation, social media management, website maintenance, and audiovisual production.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications & Branding:

  • Develop a comprehensive five-year Communication Strategy for ASLO Afghanistan in both Dari and English.
  • Lead the rebranding of ASLO, including the development of a new logo and corporate visual identity.
  • Ensure ASLO’s communication materials align with international branding standards and organizational goals.
  • Create and design ASLO’s organizational profile, brochures, business cards, templates, and visibility materials.
  • Develop fundraising campaigns tailored to ASLO’s various sectors and disseminate information to media outlets.

Media & Public Relations:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with national and international journalists, media outlets, UN agencies, INGOs, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Proactively promote ASLO’s achievements and initiatives through press releases, news features, and strategic media engagement.
  • Coordinate and oversee the publication of news articles and media content, including a feature on ASLO’s educational programs.
  • Monitor ASLO’s media presence and manage responses to public relations or program-risk issues as they arise.

Website & Social Media Management:

  • Manage and regularly update the ASLO website in Dari, Pashto, and English, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and timeliness of content.
  • Launch and manage ASLO TV online, publishing weekly news segments to highlight ASLO’s activities across the country.
  • Establish, maintain, and engage ASLO’s social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.), ensuring daily updates with high-quality content (images, videos, and news posts).
  • Ensure ASLO’s social media presence is connected with key partners, including UN agencies and international organizations.

Content Creation & Multimedia Production:

  • Write, edit, and design ASLO’s monthly newsletters, annual and quarterly reports, and other publications.
  • Develop audiovisual scripts, plan and conduct field visits for gathering success stories, photography, and video production.
  • Oversee the production of short documentaries, promotional videos, and success stories using professional video and audio equipment.
  • Ensure consistency in branding, messaging, and quality across all audiovisual and multimedia outputs.
  • Manage post-production tasks, including video editing, subtitling, motion graphics, sound mixing, and voiceovers.

Field Reporting & Documentation:

  • Travel to ASLO’s provincial offices to collect information, conduct interviews with beneficiaries, and document activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date archives of publications, photos, videos, and communication materials, categorized by themes.
  • Provide timely support to staff in accessing archived materials.

Capacity Building & Communication Support:

  • Provide communication support to ASLO program units, including training field staff on effective communication practices.
  • Translate communication materials, reports, and outreach documents between English, Dari, and Pashto as required.
  • Support the organization of public events, celebratory events, and stakeholder meetings, ensuring the development of visibility materials.

Networking & Representation:

  • Represent ASLO at public events, networking opportunities, and media engagements as needed.
  • Coordinate closely with government entities, partner organizations, and international bodies to strengthen ASLO’s communication efforts.

Other Duties:

  • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the General Director to support ASLO’s communication objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in media management, public relations, social media, and website content management, preferably with NGOs or international organizations.
  • Proven experience in audiovisual production, photography, and content development.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of communication strategies, digital marketing, and media relations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, Dari, and Pashto.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects) and MS Office.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to travel frequently to field locations and work under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Creativity, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
