The Finance and Recovery Officer is responsible for managing financial operations, overseeing loan disbursements, and ensuring effective loan recovery strategies to maintain portfolio quality. This role requires strong financial management skills, risk assessment abilities, and expertise in debt collection practices for microfinance institutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management:
• Maintain accurate financial records, including cash flow, expenses, and income.
• Prepare financial reports, budgets, and forecasts for management review.
• Ensure compliance with financial policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary financial data.
• Monitor and analyze financial transactions to detect discrepancies or fraud.
2. Loan Management & Recovery:
• Oversee loan disbursement processes to ensure proper documentation and compliance.
• Monitor loan repayments and follow up on overdue payments.
• Develop and implement loan recovery strategies to reduce non-performing loans (NPLs).
• Contact delinquent clients via phone, field visits, or written notices to negotiate repayment plans.
• Collaborate with legal teams to take necessary actions on defaulted loans.
• Maintain updated records of all collections, recoveries, and defaulters.
3. Risk Assessment & Compliance:
• Conduct credit assessments and analyze client repayment capacity before loan approvals.
• Identify high-risk clients and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
• Ensure adherence to local financial regulations and microfinance lending policies.
4. Client Relationship Management:
• Educate clients on loan repayment terms, financial literacy, and best practices.
• Handle customer inquiries and complaints regarding loans and repayments.
• Build strong relationships with clients to enhance repayment behavior.
5. Reporting & Documentation:
• Prepare periodic financial and loan recovery reports for management and regulatory authorities.
• Maintain detailed and organized records of all financial and recovery activities.
• Provide insights on portfolio performance and recommend improvements.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum [X] years of experience in finance, loan recovery, or credit management (preferably in microfinance or banking).
• Strong understanding of financial management principles, credit risk assessment, and debt collection strategies.
• Knowledge of microfinance policies, regulatory frameworks, and best practices.
Skills & Competencies:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
• Ability to work independently and handle pressure in loan recovery operations.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
• Strong ethical standards and confidentiality in handling financial data.
Work Conditions:
• Field visits may be required to follow up on loan recoveries.
• Office-based work with reporting responsibilities to senior management.
