Our work is well established in Herat, Badghis, Ghor, and Faryab provinces in the western region of Afghanistan. We work closely with all levels of society including children, parents, teachers, village councils, religious leaders, ministries, provincial departments, and other national and international agencies.

Job Descriptions:

JOB PURPOSE:

This is a full-time, grant-funded Doctor based in Herat province. And provide general health and nutrition services to all targeted population as well as provision of mental health services. S/he will have to work closely with the Health and Nutrition Coordinator to ensure standards of project activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Ensure that all team members are using PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) kit.
  • Ensure appropriate infection prevention and control measures are in place at the facility and monitor staff adherence.
  • Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit and providing oversight and guidance to enable staff to successfully perform in their positions.
  • Provide medical support and mentorship to health facility staff, providing on-the-job training where needed.
  • Work with relevant staff to ensure prompt requesting of medical drugs and supplies.
  • Assist and supervise medical staff in weekly/ monthly/ quarterly collection, compilation and reporting of data.
  • Lead monthly and weekly staff meetings as per the agenda, draft minutes and follow the action plan for implementation.
  • Ensure pharmacy follows FEFO and FIFO policy and stock cards are kept and updated as per WVI policy.
  • Ensure that the whole clinic team is kept fully informed of relevant developments.
  • Diagnose and prescribe appropriate course of treatment to the clients based on the MoPH approved guidelines on best quality manner in particular for SAM, MAM and respective diseases.
  • Adhere to rational use of medicine.
  • Make a detail referral system for any cases that need extra services to higher level of health facility.
  • Provide direct clinical care, working closely with the other clinical staff to ensure the delivery of high quality comprehensive primary healthcare services.
  • Oversee the provision of quality care within the health clinic, ensuring consultations and treatments are in line with clinical protocols, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is respected, and that all consultations are conducted in a dignified and respectful manner.
  • Oversee the training of community volunteers to provide health promotion, community mobilization and awareness raising.
  • Ensure regular inventory and consumption tracking of medical drugs and supplies.
  • Prescribe medicine according to right diagnosis and necessity of the client
  • Explaining the treatment plan to the patient and allowing sufficient time for clients to ask questions.
  • Participate in all kinds of training nominated by the Health and Nutrition coordinator.
  • Be well prepared to manage an emergency event, have the stepwise knowledge to refer clients to a third facility.
  • Treat all clients with respect, provide privacy, and maintain confidentiality
  • Assisting clients to make a decision by helping to think through the choices.
  • Understanding and respecting clients' rights
  • Being brief, doing first things first, using simple words, and repeating the most important information during counselling.
  • Encouraging clients to ask questions, and share concerns
  • Maintain proper internal referral system when required
  • Ensure the compliant box and other accountability mechanism are in place.
  • Giving regular monthly order according to the need before shortage of drugs in FHs.
  • Keep drugs in good condition according to protocol.
  • Ensure the arrangement of pharmacy drugs alphabetically considering FIFO or FEFO order.
  • Provide drugs to patients with prescription and register them in the pharmacy book and stock reports daily and ensure physical inventory at least once a month.
  • Each drug must be put in a labelled plastic bag, with the name of the drug, the dosage and the direction of usage and all the prescriptions should be store in HFs at the end of month.
  • In charge of giving health education to the patient regarding drugs use and how to keep the drugs safe.
  • Make order on monthly basis and inform before shortage the pharmacy team and HFs director in order to avoid drugs gap.
  • Provide monthly consumption report to the pharmacy coordinator and to the line manager.
  • Ensure the availability of all supplied drugs and items with specification before signing the receipt form of pharmacy team in each single supply.
  • Preparing and updating of the emergency box of the pharmacy on monthly basis according to the list.
  • Notify short expire drugs to the line manager and if the quantity of drugs is more than the consumption of the HFs then send it to pharmacy stock three months before the expiry.
  • Any other duties as delegated by supervisor.
  • Day to day registration based on the approved format by MoPH
  • Sending the hard copy of the MIAR to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator.
  • Registration of all patients, using the different OPD services.
  • Ensure all patient consultations and treatments are appropriately recorded.
  • Write up necessary and required information on client cards and ensure important information is not missing
  • Submit reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all incident reporting format is available in hard and soft copy and provider understand risk rating for clinical and product-related incident 
  • Reporting health information by using standardized HMIS forms.

Other

  • Adhere to WV Child and Adult Safeguarding policy and standards.
  • Adhere to WV accountability standards.
  • To be aware and prepared to implement WV Afghanistan Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs plan under the context of (AHF) interventions.

Job Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EXPERIENCE:

At least one year working in BPHS/EPHS or equivalent clinics as pharmacist and nurse.

Required Education,raining, license registration, and certification

Graduated from Medical Faculty.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications,

  • Ability to do the triage methods
  • Communication skills and knowledge of local communities.
  • Language’s empowerment (Dari – Pashto)
  • Flexibility for work.

Required travel and/or work environment accommodations.

Ability to travel within the work environment (Chesht and Guzara) districts of Herat province.
