About OMID Organization

The Organization for Management, Initiatives and Development (OMID) is a national, non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political organization established in 2007 by a group of Afghan multidisciplinary professionals. OMID’s mission is to serve vulnerable and marginalized populations across Afghanistan through sustainable, community-driven development and humanitarian programs.

OMID works to strengthen the technical skills and capacities of local communities through multi-sectoral interventions that promote poverty reduction, self-sufficiency, social justice, and community stability throughout the country.

The Female Psychosocial Officer will be responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and implementation of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities under OMID’s Protection Project for returnees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and host communities in Jalalabad City, Nangarhar Province.

The position requires strong technical knowledge of psychosocial support methodologies, mental health case management, and community-based protection approaches. The officer will provide psychosocial counseling and emotional support, facilitate group sessions, and coordinate referrals for individuals in need of specialized mental health services. She will also work closely with project staff, community leaders, and service providers to ensure effective delivery of protection and MHPSS services in compliance with OMID and donor standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Project Planning and Implementation

• Develop, plan, and implement MHPSS activities in accordance with project objectives, work plans, and donor requirements.
• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with beneficiaries, including women and girls affected by conflict, displacement, or GBV.
• Facilitate psychosocial support groups, awareness sessions, and community dialogues to promote emotional well-being, resilience, and coping strategies.
• Identify and assess individuals experiencing psychological distress and provide appropriate support or referrals to specialized mental health services.
• Conduct mental health awareness and stress management trainings for beneficiaries.
• Support the distribution of dignity kits and ensure they are delivered with confidentiality, respect, and protection principles.
• Mobilize and engage communities to participate actively in psychosocial and protection-related activities.
• Ensure the confidentiality, safety, and ethical management of all psychosocial cases and information.

Coordination and Representation

• Coordinate MHPSS activities with local health facilities, community-based organizations, and relevant service providers.
• Represent OMID in relevant coordination meetings, including Protection, MHPSS, and GBV sub-clusters, and other humanitarian forums.
• Maintain strong collaboration and coordination with OMID’s regional office and project stakeholders to ensure effective implementation.
• Establish referral linkages with local health centers, legal aid services, and protection actors.

Case Management and Follow-up

• Maintain up-to-date and confidential case files for all psychosocial clients, ensuring accuracy and timely documentation.
• Conduct regular follow-ups with referred clients to assess their progress and ensure they receive appropriate services.
• Identify severe cases that require specialized intervention and coordinate with mental health professionals for advanced care.

Reporting and Documentation

• Prepare and submit timely and high-quality monthly, and quarterly reports in English for donor submission and in local languages for community and authority sharing.
• Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories for visibility and learning purposes.
• Maintain accurate attendance and activity records for all MHPSS sessions and trainings.

Cross-Cutting and Strategic Responsibilities

• Ensure all psychosocial activities are conducted in line with Safe and Inclusive Programming (SIP), gender equality, and protection principles.
• Contribute to proposal writing, concept note development, and strategic planning related to MHPSS and protection sectors.
• Support capacity building of project staff and community facilitators in psychological first aid (PFA), stress management, and effective communication techniques.

Other Duties

• Undertake any other related tasks as assigned by the Project Manager or OMID’s senior management to support project implementation and organizational growth.

Job Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, or a related field (required).
• Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, Mental Health, or Social Sciences (preferred).

Experience:

• Minimum 4 years of proven experience implementing psychosocial or mental health projects with national or international NGOs.
• Prior experience working on protection-related programs is a strong asset.

Technical Skills:

• Strong understanding of psychosocial support methodologies, mental health case management, and community-based protection programming.
• Knowledge of international humanitarian principles, gender mainstreaming, and GBV prevention.
• Excellent report writing, analytical, and communication skills in English.
• Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills, particularly with vulnerable populations.

• Strong ability to facilitate group sessions and community dialogues.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• High level of empathy, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
• Fluency in English, Pashto, and Dari.
