Job Descriptions:

Background

Under the Maternal and Child Benefit Program (MCBP), the Nutrition-Sensitive Livelihoods (NSL) component aims to enhance the food security, nutrition, and resilience of vulnerable households in selected districts. The NSL component focuses on building the practical and entrepreneurial capacities of targeted beneficiaries so they can engage in income-generating and nutrition-improving activities that contribute to sustainable household wellbeing.

2. Purpose of the Job

The Livelihood Trainer/Coach will strengthen the economic resilience and self-reliance of targeted beneficiaries by delivering nutrition-sensitive livelihood training and providing continuous coaching and mentorship. The role focuses on enhancing beneficiaries’ soft skills, financial literacy, and business and entrepreneurial capacities, enabling them to establish, manage, and expand sustainable income-generating activities that improve household nutrition and food security.

Guided by approved training manuals and coaching frameworks, the Livelihood Trainer/Coach will deliver high-quality, context-appropriate, and participatory training, adapting content and methodologies to the literacy level, experience, and needs of participants. The position emphasizes hands-on learning, individualized coaching, and systematic follow-up to ensure effective application of skills, contribute to improved livelihoods, and support the objectives of the Nutrition-Sensitive Livelihoods component.

3. Key Responsibilities

A. Training Delivery and Capacity Building

  • Deliver nutrition-sensitive livelihood training modules—including soft skills, financial literacy, and basic business development—in line with the approved trainer’s manual, curriculum, and project guidelines.
  • Facilitate engaging, participatory, and learner-centered training sessions tailored to the literacy level, experience, and needs of beneficiaries.
  • Apply adult learning methodologies to promote practical understanding, hands-on learning, and skill application.
  • Develop session-wise lesson plans in accordance with the approved curriculum and training plan.
  • Develop and adapt contextualized training tools and materials (presentations, handouts, visual aids, etc.) in Pashto and Dari, in line with the trainer’s manual.
  • Support beneficiaries in developing, reviewing, documenting, and refining nutrition-sensitive livelihood and small business plans.
  • Guide beneficiaries in completing simplified environmental and social safeguards checklists during business plan development.
  • Encourage peer learning, group exchanges, confidence building, and sustainable knowledge-sharing among participants.
  • Monitor trainee attendance, participation, and learning progress throughout training activities.
  • Ensure inclusive participation, with particular attention to women and vulnerable groups.
  • Prepare and submit timely training reports, including attendance sheets, pre- and post-training results, activity summaries, and documentation of best practices, challenges, lessons learned, and success stories for organizational learning and donor reporting.

 

 

B. Coaching and Mentorship

  • Following the training, provide group coaching sessions to trainees based on the coaching guide provided.
  • Facilitate discussions to understand and support individual participants’ specific challenges, needs, and aspirations.
  • Provide a space for peer-to-peer engagement to support participants in overcoming their challenges in their businesses.
  • Support beneficiaries in further developing business plans, managing their new businesses, and accessing markets.
  • Troubleshoot operational and technical challenges faced by trainees and provide timely solutions or referrals.

C. Monitoring, Reporting, and Learning

  • Monitor trainee participation and learning progress during training and coaching sessions through regular observation, feedback, and review of training activities.
  • Prepare and submit monthly progress, training completion, and coaching reports.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories for internal learning, curriculum & coaching guide improvements, and donor reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records of training sessions, attendance, and outcomes.
  • Ensure quality and consistency of all livelihood activities in line with donor and partner standards.

D. Compliance and Conduct

  • Ensure alignment with organizational and donor guidelines.
  • Uphold RRDPO’s Code of Conduct, PSEA, and Child Protection policies.
  • Maintain fairness, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Promote gender equality and respect toward all beneficiaries.

4. Expected Deliverables

  • Approved training and coaching plans aligned with project objectives and timelines.
  • Successful delivery of nutrition-sensitive livelihood training sessions in accordance with the trainer’s manual.
  • Regularly conducted group coaching sessions as per the agreed coaching schedule.
  • Completed and documented livelihood business plans for supported beneficiaries.
  • Improved participant knowledge, skills, and confidence in managing income-generating activities.
  • Accurate attendance records and monitoring data for all training and coaching sessions.
  • Monthly coaching and progress reports submitted on time.
  • Documented best practices, lessons learned, and success stories from the field.
  • Functional peer-learning or group support mechanisms established within beneficiary groups.
  • Full compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and safeguarding standards.

Additional Responsibilities

The Livelihood Trainer / Coach may be assigned additional duties based on project needs, donor requirements, or unforeseen challenges. Flexibility and adaptability are essential.

A: Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of livelihood development, income-generating activities, and small enterprise management.
  • Experience in delivering training, facilitation, coaching, and mentoring using participatory and adult learning approaches.
  • Ability to guide beneficiaries in developing and implementing basic business plans.
  • Understanding of financial literacy, basic bookkeeping, and market linkages.
  • Familiarity with nutrition-sensitive livelihood approaches is an asset.
  • Ability to use basic monitoring tools for tracking attendance, progress, and results.
  • Basic smartphone and digital reporting skills.
