Muslim Hands Afghanistan – MHA obtained formal registration from the Ministry of Economy in Afghanistan with registration No. 141 in 2005 and is now firmly established with its Headquarters in Kabul, and is fully engaged in relief and development activities in different parts of the country. Job Summary

The assistant Pharmacist at a CHC is responsible for managing all pharmacy-related activities to ensure safe, effective, and rational use of medications in line with Afghanistan’s health policies (BPHS/EPHS) and organizational guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dispense medications accurately as prescribed by physicians.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients on how and when to take medicines.
  • Monitor drug therapies, counsel on side effects, and advise on potential drug interactions.
  • Maintain proper records of all dispensed medicines and patient interactions.
  • Maintain and dispense all the Nutrition dept. prescriptions. 
  • Ensure accurate stock management of medicines and pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Maintain stock registers and ensure proper storage conditions (temperature, humidity, expiry monitoring).
  • Prepare medicine requisitions and coordinate orders to avoid shortages by coordination of CHC pharmacy officer.
  • Remove expired or damaged drugs from inventory and report accordingly.
  • Follow applicable laws, regulations, and established procedures governing pharmaceutical practice.
  • Ensure clean and safe pharmacy workspace.
  • Complete daily, monthly, and quarterly pharmacy records and reports.
  • Assist with Pharmacy officer in administrative tasks as required by CHC management.
  • Participate in coordination or technical meetings related to pharmacy services.
  • Educate patients and community members about medication usage and potential harms of self-medication.
  • Provide basic health screening support (blood pressure, blood sugar) where integrated as part of CHC services (depending on organizational scope).

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent) from a recognized institute/University.
  • Valid license to practice pharmacy in Afghanistan (where applicable).
  • Experience3-5 years in clinical or community pharmacy, preferably with NGOs or health facilities.
  • Language skills: Dari & Pashto fluency; English often required for reporting/documentation

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of medication dosage, safety, interactions, and storage.
  • Solid communication and patient counselling skills.
  • Good organizational and record-keeping abilities.
  • Basic computer literacy for reporting and inventory system use.
