Lab Technician

AAHO is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (“NGO”) dedicated to improving the health status of the people of Afghanistan in general and the health status of the residents of Kabul Districts 6, 7, and 13, in particular, through the operation of the Afshar Hospital. 

Afshar Hospital is a 100-bed capacity hospital located in Omid-e-Sabz Township, Darulaman (District 6). The organization provides healthcare to all who seek care, irrespective of religion, race, gender, age, or ability to pay.

Purpose:

             To provide high-quality laboratory service.

Responsibilities:

• Work for the Afshar Hospital   during its official working hours
• Responsible for all laboratory services
• Ensure that laboratory supplies are well stored, that the consumption is recorded, and that the stock is replenished timely
• Keep an accurate register of all laboratory examinations
• Keep all Sputum and Malaria Slides stored adequately (for quality control purposes)
• Adequately dispose of expired laboratory supplies
• Report to the Hospital Management Team monthly, or as often as requested, on the Hospital Laboratory Stock in and out
• Prepare, under supervision and guidance from the Hospital Director, the monthly Laboratory Supply order
• Actively update his knowledge on current best practice and national guidelines
• Carry out any duties assigned by the Head of Department.
• Collect, label, and process patient specimens, ensuring correct patient identification and sample integrity.
• Perform internal quality control (IQC).
• Adhere to laboratory biosafety, infection control, and waste disposal procedures.
• Ensure donor eligibility in accordance with national and international guidelines.
• Verify correct labeling of blood bags and samples at the time of collection.
• Ensure proper mixing of blood with anticoagulant.
• Store blood components at their appropriate temperatures.
• Manage emergency and massive transfusion requests.

Qualifications and Experience:

Afghan Nationality

Holds a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a bachelor's in Medical Laboratory Technology from a well-known institution or university and is fully licensed by the relevant government authorities.  

At least five years of experience in a similar position

Pleasant personality

Good organizational skills

Fluent in local languages
