Bank-e-Millie Afghan (BMA) is the foremost first financial institution of Afghanistan established in 1933. Job Description

The Shariah Review Officer is responsible for reviewing and evaluating banking documents, transactions, and products from a Shariah perspective, and for following up on the implementation of Shariah Board resolutions and guidelines across different bank units to ensure that all activities comply with Islamic banking principles.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct thorough reviews of documents, contracts, transactions, and banking products to ensure full compliance with Islamic jurisprudence principles.

  2. Implement Shariah Board guidelines and resolutions in coordination with other bank units and follow up on their execution.

  3. Develop and utilize Shariah compliance checklists to assess and evaluate banking transactions from a Shariah perspective.

  4. Identify non-compliant issues in banking documents and propose corrective recommendations to the relevant manager.

  5. Document the Shariah compliance process across different bank departments and maintain organized records.

  6. Collaborate with other responsible officers in preparing Shariah compliance reports for submission to the Head of Shariah Affairs and the Shariah Board.

  7. Conduct field visits to branches and various bank units to assess on-site Shariah compliance in coordination with the Shariah Compliance Manager.

  8. Participate in internal coordination meetings and provide professional opinions on matters related to Shariah implementation.

  9. Review the bank’s operational procedures to ensure alignment with fatwas issued by the Shariah Board and identify any potential gaps.

  10. Submit documented, analytical, and timely reports to the relevant manager regarding non-compliance issues and compliance progress.

  11. Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisors.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:

    • Islamic Jurisprudence and Law

    • Islamic Economics

    • Islamic Banking

    • Or other related fields
      (A Master’s degree and specialized certifications in Islamic finance and transactions, such as AAOIFI, will be considered an advantage.)

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in Shariah compliance, Shariah audit, or Islamic banking.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Islamic banking standards and Islamic contracts (Murabaha, Musharakah, Mudarabah, Ijarah, etc.).

  • Ability to supervise the implementation of Shariah Board resolutions in branches and head office departments.

  • Ability to prepare supervisory reports and corrective recommendations.

  • Strong skills in analyzing documents and contracts from a Shariah perspective.

  • Excellent official writing skills in Dari and Pashto (knowledge of Arabic and English is an advantage).

  • Proficiency in computer applications, especially MS Office.

  • High level of integrity, trustworthiness, organizational discipline, and ability to maintain confidentiality of documents.

  • No criminal conviction and possession of a good reputation.
