Asia Community Development Organization (ACDO) is an Afghan non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit humanitarian organization established in 2014 and registered with the Government of Afghanistan under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy (MoEc) with a mission to provide humanitarian and development assistance to the vulnerable, at-risk, and underserved people throughout the country.
ACDO responds to the needs of deprived and marginalized rural and urban communities by managing and utilizing the available scarce resources in a well-organized, efficient, effective, transparent, and dignified manner to enhance resilience, boost access to education, health services, and infrastructure, ensure food and livelihood security, and promote social protection and inclusion.
ACDO has an active presence in most parts of the country and intends to expand its operations to the remaining provinces, as to transform itself into a leading and developed organization that will deliver to and support large number of people who have been affected by the long-protracted and sudden on-set emergencies and regardless of the hardest circumstances that exist in Afghanistan, ACDO has managed to deliver humanitarian and development assistance in most of country.
Job Description
Position Summary:
The Food Safety and Quality Specialist will be responsible for the safety and quality assurance of school feeding modalities. The role involves process optimization and technical support to ensure high-quality and safe designated food commodities are prepared and delivered to the school students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Test and evaluate raw materials for quality and compliance with food safety standards.
- Conduct regular food storage warehouse inspections and quality checks of ingredients.
- Collaborate with school meal production teams to improve efficiency and consistency in manufacturing.
- Develop standard operating procedures for ingredient mixing baking, cooling, and packaging.
- Monitor parameters during the storage, preparation, and handling, and provide technical guidance to improve school feeding food commodities quality and safety.
- Ensure compliance of food production areas with food safety regulations and GMP practices.
- Conduct quality-control tests and sensory evaluations.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks in the production process.
- Develop training materials on food safety, food quality, and technical processes.
- Train production and quality control staff on best practices in school meal processing.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in food technology, Pharmacy, or any related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food manufacturing and processing units.
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards, HACCP, and GMP.
- Familiarity with bakery production equipment and processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team.
- Strong analytical, communication, and training skills.
Working Conditions:
- Work may be performed in food production facilities, warehouses, or field locations.
- May require travel to different sites for inspections and monitoring.
- Exposure to food processing environments (temperature variations, machinery, etc.).
Reporting To:
Project Manager/ Program Coordinator
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Compliance rate with food safety standards
- Number of non-conformities identified and resolved
- Audit performance and inspection results
- Staff training completion and effectiveness
- Reduction in food safety incidents
