Job Descriptions:

As a Midwife for our (DICs), you will play a crucial role in providing maternal and reproductive health services to women accessing the DICs, with a focus on those who have experienced substance abuse and gender-based violence (GBV). Working collaboratively with the project team, you will deliver comprehensive midwifery care, education, and support to promote the health and well-being of DIC clients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Antenatal Care:
  • Conduct comprehensive antenatal assessments, including prenatal examinations, health history reviews, and risk assessments, for pregnant women accessing the DICs
  • Provide prenatal counseling, education, and support to promote healthy pregnancies and positive birth outcomes
  • Monitor fetal development, maternal health status, and potential pregnancy complications, initiating appropriate interventions and referrals as needed.
  1. Postnatal Care:
  • Offer postnatal care and support to women following childbirth, including newborn assessments, breastfeeding support, and maternal health monitoring.
  • Provide counseling on postpartum recovery, infant care, family planning, and contraception options to support maternal and child health.
  • Facilitate postnatal follow-up visits and referrals to community health services as required for ongoing maternal and infant care.
  1. Family Planning and Reproductive Health:
  • Provide comprehensive family planning counseling and services, including contraceptive education, method selection, and provision of contraceptive supplies.
  • Conduct reproductive health assessments and screenings, including sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and cervical cancer screening, as part of routine care.
  • Promote informed decision-making and reproductive autonomy for DIC clients, addressing their unique needs and preferences.
  1. Health Education and Promotion:
  • Deliver health education consultation and individual counseling sessions on topics related to maternal and reproductive health, including prenatal care, childbirth preparation, and newborn care.
  • Collaborate with peer workers and counselors to address substance abuse, GBV, and other social determinants of health that may impact maternal and child well-being.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of pregnant and postpartum women within the DICs and the broader community, promoting access to equitable and respectful care.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of midwifery assessments, care plans, interventions, and outcomes in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare reports and summaries of midwifery activities, maternal health outcomes, and program achievements to support program monitoring, evaluation, and quality improvement efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in midwifery or equivalent qualification from an accredited institution required; licensure or certification as a midwife in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience practicing midwifery, preferably in a community health or reproductive health setting.
  • Strong knowledge of maternal and reproductive health principles, evidence-based practices, and standards of care.
  • Excellent communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse clients and communities.
  • Proficiency in medical documentation and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Job Requirements:
