Job Description

About Position:

Human Medical Laboratory is looking or a talented Laboratory Technologist. The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist specializing in Biochemistry/Clinical Pathology plays a crucial role in our laboratory's operations, contributing to the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostic testing and research activities. This position requires expertise in biochemistry and clinical pathology techniques, along with strong leadership skills to oversee laboratory operations and mentor junior staff.

Duties, Responsibilites and Accountabilities:

  1. Supervision and receiving clinical samples & their identification and safely storing samples to be tested.
  2. Supervision and performing tests needed for the analysis, results recording & reporting.
  3. Ensuring the performance of daily QC testing, equipment calibration and reporting. Collection & analysis of monthly QC data and submission to Head of the department.
  4. To ensure compliance with good work practices in accordance with the standards of the medical laboratory technology.
  5. Complete knowledge about the technical and safety SOPs & policies and to make sure their implementation & monitoring of junior staff.
  6. Responsible for staff performance, training needs assessment.
  7. Responsible for the scheduled preventive maintenance of the instruments according to the manufacturer’s instructions and to inform the laboratory senior staff for any inquiry.
  8. Always aware and in contact with the section staff for any issue and report any unusual issue to the head of the department.
  9. To be able to provide comprehensive training and competency assessment for junior staff in the section.
  10. To be able to work on duty roster.
  11. Monitor the workflow in the section and close coordinate with staff during routine operation and holidays.
  12. Coordination with Laboratory Admin to clarify and approves overtime and leaves.
  13. To liaise regularly with senior staff both inside and outside the department regarding any issues, either on-going or emerging, which may affect laboratory performance or patient care.
  14. Review & if needed revise and update section’s technical SOPs, CAP checklist or ISO-15189 checklist in close coordination with the senior administration.
  15. Manage section’s supply chain to make sure the availability of kits, reagents and consumables, take out the expired items and report to Logistic Officer, Monthly forecasting creating monthly supplies order and wastage report.
  16. To prepare the monitor management and operational performance data, for example turnaround times, workload and materials consumption on a monthly basis.
  17. Responsible for the section’s incident reporting including result delays, their causes and actions and to coordinate with Laboratory administration.
  18. To manage the investigation of root causes of process failures and incorrect results.
  19. In case other staff are on leave, he should make sure the availability as per the duty roster plan.
  20. Any other tasks assigned by the administration.
  21. Self-motivated, proactive in dealing with issues, logical thinker with eye for detail and willingness to learn.
  22. Significant experience in Biochemistry, microscopy of body fluids analysis, hematology, urinalysis, parasitology etc. within a medical laboratory.
  23. Ability to work collaboratively to create meaningful use of health and laboratory information and technologies.
  24. Maintain the highest level of integrity, professionalism and patient confidentiality.
  25. Ability to demonstrate good team-building skills.
  26. Ability to deal with difficult staff issues and service users, including complaints.
  27. Have a positive attitude and the ability to motivate the junior staff.
  28. Ability to support the department’s goal of the provision of a quality driven and caring patient-centered service.

Job Requirements

  1. Education

Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. Master's degree preferred.

  1. Experience

Minimum 2 years of laboratory employment, espcially within Clinical Chemistry

  1. Language

Written and Verbal Fluency in English, Pashto and Dari

  1. Work Hours

Second Shift of the day (3pm to 10pm)
