About Action Against Hunger:

Action Against Hunger/Action Contre La Faim (AAH/ACF) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that was created in France in 1979. AAH/ACF has been active in Afghanistan in the medical, nutrition, food security, and water and sanitation fields since 1995.  AAH/ACF improved access to health and nutrition services for the most vulnerable people, who live in remote areas without a local health system. In particular, the country team supported pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under five, who are at greater risk of malnutrition. Nutrition programs rely on an integrated approach, addressing both primary and underlying causes, in order to have a lasting impact on nutritional status.  The country team worked at community level, in villages and at provincial level, strengthening the public health system. It also worked at national level to ensure reliable information about the nutritional situation reached the wider humanitarian community. Covid-19 prevention was integrated into all interventions and additional response activities were implemented, such as the disinfection of health facilities and public places, cash assistance, psychosocial support and the distribution of hygiene kits to affected populations.

Job Descriptions:

Goal

Working as an important member of a diverse team who are committed to serve the world’s most vulnerable with practical and compassionate care the WASH Supervisor has a vital role to play in improving access to safe water, safe sanitation and positive hygiene practices for the target population. This involves effectively managing the WASH soft components under this project in line with the objectives, budget and timeframe laid down under this project at community level to the most vulnerable households in Badakhshan province especially in Wakhan district.

 

Objective 1: Implement of community integrated strategy for behaviour change;

  • Participate in the pre-implementation assessment on the field
  • Participate in the identification of Shuras/CHWs/FAHG and other leaders
  • Participate in the elaboration of the support tools for the implementation of strategy
  • Prepare and ensure that materials needed is available and in good quality before going to field
  • Plan, organize and realize sessions, according to the methodology defined, with CHWs, Shuras, FHAG and community (men/women) regarding acute malnutrition, complementary feeding, and hygiene/sanitation: basic nutrition, acute malnutrition, personal and environmental hygiene practices, as define by the PM and supervisor
  • Carry out home-to-home visits for women/girls and public sessions for men/boys on hygiene issues
  • Organize sessions in the communities to identify the deficiencies in terms of hygiene, sanitation and the use of water 
  • Visit communities on regular basis
  • Reporting challenges/successes to line manager
  • Responsible for the implementing of WASH Soft component activities with close coordination of WASH supervisor and PM
  • Works closely with WASH supervisor, WASH PM and WASH engineer to identify communities, beneficiaries and the intervention in targeted communities
  • Ensure quality and respect of deadlines of the project soft component activities implementation
  • Support the WASH supervisor and PM to conduct the needs assessment of the targeted communities
  • Participate in the organization and the distribution of kits
  • Support WASH supervisor on organizing and conducting the religious leaders training with close coordination of the WASH PM
  • Mobilize the beneficiaries to participate in the project according to the agreement made with them: contribute with workers on Cash for work intervention, funding etc.
  • Concrete support of WASH PM on providing monthly narrative and quantitative update of project
  • Ensure all data from the field are provided on daily, weekly and monthly basis to the WASH supervisor
  • Participate in preparing training modules for the promotion of hygiene with the supervisor;
  • Communication with the other team member and collaboration with WASH supervisor the WASH PM and WASH Engineer

 

Objective 2: Train and mobilize the community members

  • Liaise with the authorities, committees and other beneficiaries based on needs with close coordination of WASH supervisor
  • Support the organization and leading of monthly meetings with existing leaders with close coordination of the WASH supervisor and WASH engineer
  • Apply the methodologies defined for the sensitizing sessions on hygiene promotion
  • Write a summary of the weekly activities
  • Participate to the elaboration of the training tools
  • Provide training sessions on hygiene to leaders or other formal/informal actors/groups with close coordination of the WASH supervisor
  • Organize/facilitate group awareness sessions on hygiene practices for men/women in community and other identified location
  • Ensure that cross cutting issues such as protection, gender, environment, HIV are addresses and mainstreamed in the project.
  • Ensure that WASH activities are integrated with other activities for optimum benefit of the beneficiaries
  • Report any problem/challenges faced to the WASH PM
  • Propose possible improvements

 

Objective 4: Ensure and respect security rules

  • Ensure that security procedures and guidelines and followed
  • Inform project WASH PM, WASH supervisor and WASH engineer with all project staff about any security incident happened in the targeted area

 

  • Undertake any other task assigned by the supervisor

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

  • University Graduate or teacher and or 12 grade graduated (University degree at Public health, science or teaching, and any other related fields)

 

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in national and/or international NGOs including at least 1 years in WASH programs

 

Background/skill required 

  • Good knowledge of sanitation and hygiene
  • Basic knowledge of water
  • Good knowledge of awareness session
  • Basic knowledge in conducting training is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skill 
  • Good team interaction and positive attitude
  • Familiar with Word, Excel, and Skype is an asset
  • Fluent in local language (both  written and spoken)
  • Familiar with the area of Badakhshan
  • Basic Knowledge on Health/Nutrition
  • Experience in project with community hygiene promotion and handwashing demonstration
  • Experience in project with hygiene kit distribution
