Program Description: The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Position Overview
The Pharmacy officer will work closely with city managers and pharmacy associate manager to support
medical supply chain management for the UHI project, including medication, consumables and
equipment procurement, stocking, supply distribution, inventory, and rational use. in close collaboration
with the procurement department to ensure, vendor management, wholesaler relationships,
standardization, and supply-chain-related information management systems

Responsibilities
• Ensuring the timely availability of medical supplies at the city stock
• Ensuring the timely distribution of medical supplies to target health facilities
• Establishing an effective system of drug management and use that the health facility level
• Ensuring rational use of the medical supply at the health facilities and community level
• Responsible for the efficient running of the medical warehouse in the city.
• Accurate documentation and calculation of drugs in stock, drugs issued to the HFs, FHH, MLMCC,
CM, MHT, and HPs
• A physical inventory of medicines every quarter to ensure adequate stocks are available in the
provincial warehouse at all times
• Analyze drug consumption patterns from the HFs, FHH, MLMCC, CM, MHT, and HPs reports
• Prepare monthly reports on drugs issued, consumed, and stock balances
• Make periodic visits to HFs, FHH, MLMCC, CM, MHT, and HPs to supervise stock management
• practices and record-keeping
• Participate in the project’s internal meetings and share challenges and lessons learned in
implementing activities Draft, edit, and proofread related materials
• Comply with project operational, security, and other guidelines and policies.
• Update stock cards and stock balance.
• Prepare a plan for pharmacy stock arrangement.
• Responsible for preparing Pharmaceutical Logistic Information System (PLIS) reports as per stock
report.
• To prepare Goods Received Note (GRN), Waybill, and able to use database.
• To ensure that pharmaceuticals are not expired, if it is near to expire should be reported in three
months advance to the Kabul City Manager.
• To make sure that all drugs/Supplies received or issued are entered into the pharmacy database,
stock book, and stock card on due time in coordination with the pharmacy team.
• Ensure that all pharmaceuticals are regularly supplied to the HFs based on consumption reports and
approved documents.
• To ensure that stock inventory is conducted every three months and reports are prepared and
shared with the line manager.
• To take preventive measures such as humidity, direct sunlight, and bugs in the pharmacy warehouse
and stores in support of the administration team,
• Perform any other tasks as assigned by the line supervisor

Qualification Required:
Registered Pharmacist or technician;
At least three years of experience (Pharmacist) and 5 years experience as a technician in a similar
position
and proven experience in the management of drug system
Abilities/Skills:
• Ability to work successfully in teams, across a diverse team in a complex environment with multiple
• tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform
• strong skills in coordination and team building
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including strong writing, analytical, and skills in
Dari, Pashtu, and English (preferable)
• Experience working with Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, Word, Outlook Explorer,
PowerPoint) is advantageous
