About La Chaîne de l'Espoir:

La Chaîne de L’Espoir (CDE) is a French organisation which aims to provide access to healthcare to the most vulnerable children and women.

The Women and Children’s House is a project which consists of providing full support to children and women referred from all over Afghanistan by a network of partners, in order to access health care only available in the French Medical Institute for Mothers & Children (FMIC) such as Cardiac surgery (open heart for instance), complex orthopaedic, plastic, ENT, etc. CDE selects the beneficiaries based on socioeconomic criteria and their medical file, then CDE team accompanies the beneficiaries and their families to the exams and surgery and provides accommodation and covers transportation from and to their homes. Since 2008, more than 10,000 patients benefited from CDE’s support for their treatment.

In 2022, CDE launched a pilot Nutrition project at FMIC, through the opening of an IPD SAM 12 beds, and now 16 beds, unit, plus 4 beds in ICU. In 2023 CDE also opened and OPD SAM / MAM at FMIC. Through a referral system with paediatric hospitals, both Kabul and provinces based, the IPD SAM unit is admitting patients who are suffering from complex pathologies and/ or medical complications leading to/caused by severe malnutrition.  

Job Descriptions:

    1. Contibute to the smooth running on beneficiaries referral process.
  • Conduct comprehensive social and economic assessment while using the appropriate tools and ensuring the admission criteria are met. Collect pictures authorizations letters from beneficiaries.
  • Present the new cases to the Project Manager as part of the validation process and share the information regarding rejected cases. Coordinate with the head Nurse to guarantee holistic approach.
  • Liaise with the partners regarding the referral documentation, the WCH rules, the rejected cases… Take part in meetings; meet the partner’s requests as primary focal point. Detect risks, gaps, weaknesses and raise any issue to the Project Manager (e.g. corruption, lack of transparency, conflict of interest).
  • Develop new measures that aim to improve the partnership in close coordination with the Project Manager.

 

    1. Ensure the beneficiaries benefit from high quality social support.
  • Conduct weekly group sessions (hygiene and nutrition promotion, post-surgical care awareness, access to education for children, women rights… and any topic raised by the beneficiaries themselves that they would like to address). Support the Project Manager in the creation of relevant tools for those sessions.
  • Provide active listening, psychosocial support, identify specific psychological needs and liaise with relevant organizations for the referral of such cases. Pay specific attention to the wellbeing of girls and women as per CDE Protection policies.
  • Distribute hygiene and post care kits as well as clothes as needed. Pay attention to extremely vulnerable families and raise specific needs to the Project Manager.
  • Explain the House rules to the beneficiaries as well as CDE Complaint and Response Mechanism. Encourage them to raise their voice while guaranteeing total confidentiality.
  • Manage the playroom and playground while elaborating a friendly and appropriate environment for children. Support the Project Manager in the creation and implementation of entertainment activities (e.g. celebration of International Days). Conduct recreational and educational activities that distract the children from their disease. List the needs of educational games and toys adapted to age and gender.
    1. Contribute to the good management of data and ensure administrative tasks.
  • Conduct interviews, collect data for success stories and donors’ reports.
  • Translate documents into Dari and Pashto as per the Project Manager request (e.g. admission criteria, MoU, emails…).
  • Maintain accurate data reporting in the files (hard and soft). Keep records of the rejected cases, the group sessions, the supply distribution details etc. Maintain clear archiving system.
  • Take good quality pictures for communication purposes, while respecting Child Protection and sensitive data management principles.

The responsibilities and activities of the Social Care Facilitator as described above are not exhaustive and might progress according to the project needs.

Job Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor degree or master’s degree in Mental Health issues, Psychosocial Support, Psychology, or other field relevant to the position.
  • Training courses in Gender Based Violence, Protection Mainstreaming, Child Protection, Nonviolent Communication etc. are highly valuable.

Experience

  • At least 2 years with vulnerable population suffering from trauma, psychological disorders etc.
  • Experience with an international NGO is an asset.
