About Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation And Recreation (AABRAR):

AABRAR is a local Afghan non-government organization concerned with the rehabilitation and socioeconomic integration of disabled people and other vulnerable groups into the community.

Founded in 1992, AABRAR began a bicycle-training program for amputees to improve mobility and increase their independence, enabling them to travel to and from work, and save on transportations costs. Since then, AABRAR has expanded its activities to offer a range of services to vulnerable people, designing special programs for women and children to address their needs. Programs include physiotherapy and health care, bicycle training, vocational trainings, numeracy, and literacy classes, mine awareness, Education, health education, Livelihood, WASH, and various sporting activities. AABRAR also works in the area of social development, helping to raise awareness of the rights of disabled people within Afghanistan and dispel negative attitudes towards disability.

AABRAR has widened its beneficiary classification to include other vulnerable groups such as widows, orphans, unemployed people, youth, ex-combatants, and street children, to reach those people most in need of assistance.

Job Descriptions:

Under the supervision of Project Manager, the incumbent of this position will perform the following specific activities:

  1. Assist the Project Manager in the overall successful implementation of the project activities in Herat Province.
  2. Conduct capacity building needs assessment of school teachers, school Shura members, District Coordinator and community mobilizers.
  3. Assist to recruit and deploy teachers, especially female, train and support them to provide child-centered lessons, continuously assess students’ learning progress, and take into account potential psycho-social and other stresses likely affecting their ability to engage in learning.
  4. Support MOE with the provision of supervisory visits to schools
  5. Responsible for the capacity building of District Coordinator , Community mobilizers under this project
  6. Undertake initial mapping of schools, especially those in high poverty, high density and high infection areas, to assess the scope and type of WASH and hygiene needs and specific challenges to addressing them,
  7. Responsible for record keeping of the classes and the students available.
  8. Support teachers and school Shuras to conduct back to school campaign particularly targeting issues of children in work, pushed into early marriage or excluded as IDPs and returnees.
  9. Evaluate training sessions and summarize evaluation report for each training.
  10. Manage and maintain training facilities and equipment.
  11. Closely communicate with Project Manager, and provide the report on the progress of the activities in timely manner.
  12. Collaborate and cooperate with the district Coordinators and Community Mobilizers to increase effectiveness of developing quality training materials and maximize the training impacts.
  13. Prepare success stories per event highlighting the impact of the project activities on an individual participant or group under this project.
  14. Act as team player and collaborate with the other project personnel in achieving the project planned outputs and outcomes.
  15. Report any incident or challenge faced immediately to the attention of the Project Manager for timely assistance and solution.
  16. Perform any other relevant task as assigned by the Project Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • University degree (preferably from Education Faculty or similar)
  • 4 years’ experience from working within technical expertise area in a humanitarian/ recovery context
