The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat’s (AKAH) goal is that people live in safe, sustainable, and resilient habitats with the opportunity to thrive, whether in a remote mountain village, a town, or a densely populated urban center. It works with communities to help them prepare for and respond to natural disasters and the effects of climate change. Under the guidance and supervision of the Program Manager Communication, the Communications Officer is responsible for positioning AKAH-A’s work across priority areas through multimedia and social media platforms. He/she is responsible for drafting and editing communication materials, and creating multi-media content. He/she is responsible for outreach with regional campaigns in coordination with relevant team leaders. He/she is also responsible for supporting communication initiatives of different department of AKAH A.

(MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS)

• Implementation of the communication strategy of AKAH
• Develop and support implementation of awareness raising and behaviour change communication plans for ensuring proactive participation of communities in different initiatives to improve the quality of their habitat.
•  Contribute to the development and implementation of regional communications work plan;
• Initiate, draft, edit communication multimedia materials, including press kits, fact sheets, infographics;
• Development and finalization of impact stories from the field
• Write, edit and improve range of online content for AKAH page on AKDN website.
• Organize communication and information sharing events
• Work with relevant project teams on communications to target donors and other partners;
• Support Program Manager Communications to expand AKAH-A visibility;
• Generate multimedia content, including infographics, video, photos;
• Solicit, select and edit periodic blogs for the regional and global sites;
• Solicit news and success stories from country programmes/projects;
• Provide communication and online advocacy support to country programmes/projects as needed;
• Research, write, edit or film web news stories, and interviews drawn from AKAH-A work in the region.
• Scan regional and global news to find relevant opportunities for AKAH-A outreach with media.

Education:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in in relevant field ( communications, journalism, marketing communication, business administration, social science, etc)

Experience:

• 2 years of work experience required in the field of communications (Concession can be give to candidates with excellent written and verbal communication skills)
• Good understanding of social media and online tools;
• Professional editing and copywriting skills, including writing articles, reports, social media content, and press releases.
  
  Skills:

Technical Skills

• Ability to develop, edit written content for media and the general public to be disseminated through press or other online outlets (English as well as Dari)
• Excellent IT skills, including confidence with web-based applications, and some knowledge of HTML, as well as video and photo editing and design software;
• Development of Behaviour Change Communication Plans

Other Skills:

• Excellent coordination with stakeholders
• Ability to listen, adapt, persuade and transform;
• Professional in English both verbal and written, knowledge of local languages is highly desirable;
• Work well independently and in teams;
• Ability to form and maintain meaningful working relationships with various members of the media.

Personal Characteristics:              

• Pro-active in anticipating work requirements and completing tasks in a fast paced environment.
