Our work is well established in Herat, Badghis, Ghor, and Faryab provinces in the western region of Afghanistan. We work closely with all levels of society including children, parents, teachers, village councils, religious leaders, ministries, provincial departments, and other national and international agencies.

Job Descriptions:

The main responsibility of this position is to support the implementation of the pharmacy and support the MHNTs in delivering services at the community level as well as to assist in monitoring the pharmacy and nutrition supply use. Ensuring respect for Good Distribution Practices for Pharmaceutical Products (GDP) in the MHNT.  Ensuring that the tools used in pharmacy management are used in a standard format. Assisting in avoiding financial losses due to expired products, overstock, or placing “exceptional” orders to address shortages. Assisting in putting on place appropriate consumption follow-up system.

Job Requirements:

Main responsibilities

  • Together with health assistants do receptions during the arrival of products.
  • Update all movements in Stock Cards.
  • Ensure that the stock level is updated by doing regular physical inventories.
  • Support to organize drugs and medical materials according to WVI-A standards (by category, alphabetical order on international non-proprietary name, expiry date, “first expiring first out” system - FEFO) at all project levels.
  • Support to ensure the stock is in perfect condition of hygiene, organization, storage capacity, and ambient temperature.
  • Be responsible for all movements and storage of drugs under controlled use (narcotics, psychotropic, and precursors).
  • Follow up a stock level by doing a list of items to replace and reporting to the health assistant any change in consumption.
  • Be responsible for monthly orders submitted to the pharmacy.
  • Support the ordering process from Services - weekly orders - to ensure they are done
    appropriately and according to standards, reporting to the health assistant any irregularities in prescriptions.
  • Follow up expiry dates, by doing a list of items to expire within 6 months and reporting to the health assistant.
  • Supervise and support the management of expired/damaged items.
  • Report immediately to the health assistant problem arising in the service, especially the loss/ robbery/damage of medical equipment or medicines.

Reporting, analysis monitoring, and evaluation

  • Prepare monthly consumption and stock reports and send them to the direct line manager/field pharmacy Coordinator.
  • Prepare distribution, reception, physical inventory, and donation, expiration, and damage reports to the direct line manager and field pharmacy manager every month.
  • Analyze the consumption of drugs and other pharmaceuticals and provide feedback to the line manager.
  • Analysis of the reports to find gaps (shortages, short expiry, supply problems, and discrepancies) and share them with line manager and Pharmacy coordinator

  • KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

    Required Professional Experience

  • At least 1 year of Relevant experience as a dispensing pharmacist
  •  Experience in the provision of Pharmacy and nursing.
  • Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • At least 14th grade qualification in Nurse, nutrition, or related relevant discipline
  • Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Humanitarian context knowledge and experience.
  • Experience in developing action plans, preparing curriculum and training/orientation materials
  • Experience in documentation and reporting
  • Experience working with community leaders (Community-Based Structures)
  • Experience in adult learning methodology and monitoring of training activities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a field team.
  • Very good communication with communities and local authorities.
  • Ability to exhibit exemplary lifestyle as interpreted in specific local cultural context
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity, flexible views, emotional maturity, and physical stamina.
  • Demonstrable experience in child protection, child rights
  • Interpersonal, management, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Good computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet use, and Lotus Notes.

    The position is based in one in Badghis and one in Ghor provinces
