Job Description
Overall purpose:
The Producer/presenter will work as part of BBC Media Action’s production team in Afghanistan. S/he will be undertaking audio content production duties on a daily basis. The person will also be responsible to research relevant issues, brief the presenter, record, edit and/or revise audio content as well as invite guests and program participants from across Afghanistan. And be asked to present the programs as well as conduct interviews. He/she may also provide mentoring support to BBC MA partner local radio stations on covering humanitarian issues.
Main Duties & responsibilities:
- Produce content for the weekly shows Dari and Pashto.
- Writing scripts in Dari and Pashto for entire programs or different segments of a program.
- Present programs or parts of programs on radio or other media, engaging with the audience and delivering content professionally.
- Do research on the key topics, suggest questions for the presenters and develop content.
- To ensure content reflects our diverse audiences
- Record and edit audio content for the weekly radio programme and other outputs as needed.
- Manage administrative tasks related to program production and scheduling.
- Ensure all content meets BBC technical, editorial, design, and accessibility standards, and adhere to Health and Safety policies.
- Keep and manage multimedia asset collections, including audio files and scripts.
- Manage administrative tasks related to program production and scheduling.
- Contact local community councils, NGOs, and CSOs to ensure a diverse and representative audience.
- Assess and address audience feedback to improve program quality.
- Develop and manage positive working relationships with staff and contributors, providing constructive feedback.
- Mentor local journalists on covering health, nutrition, and WASH issues
- Undertake any additional production duties as requested by the line manager.
Job Requirements
- At least 3 years of demonstrable experience of working in a broadcast or content production environment.
- Experience in radio broadcasting as a producer and presenter, or in a related role.
- Proven experience in producing and editing multimedia content, including radio, or digital platforms.
- Knowledge of the target audience, their needs and expectations;
- Experience of taking ideas from concept to finished product whilst driving forward creativity;
- Effective planning and organizing skills. Ability to manage several areas of work at one time, prioritizing, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities
- Sound editorial judgement and an ability to decide when to seek guidance and escalate issues where appropriate.
- A passion for and a great understanding of the area in which the role operates.
- An understanding of maternal health, nutrition and WASH would be an advantage
- Fluency in Dari and Pashto and good understanding of English.
- Awareness of or willingness to learn more about BBC Editorial Guidelines and ability to put these into practice.
- Ability to develop creative ideas, which engage diverse audiences in a demanding creative environment.
- Ability to develop and adapt content ideas based on research and audience needs.
- Strong storytelling and creative skills for scripting and storyboarding.
- Ability to reach out to community organizations to ensure diverse representation.
- Excellent communication skills
- Hands-on audio editing skills, such as but not limited to Adobe Audition and Adobe Premier
- Good keyboard skills in English, Dari and Pashto keyboards.
