Job Descriptions:

1. Hygiene and Health Promotion:

  • Lead hygiene and health promotion campaigns in transitional centers, and, focusing on improving knowledge and practices related to personal and environmental hygiene and disease prevention.
  • Deliver culturally sensitive health education sessions on water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and health-related topics tailored to women, girls, and children, ensuring alignment with community values and local contexts.
  • Distribute hygiene kits, dignity kits, and other essential health-related items, ensuring their proper use and the promotion of good hygiene practices in households and communities.

2. Community Engagement and Outreach:

  • Engage with community members, including women, girls, and caregivers, to raise awareness on the importance of hygiene and health practices, particularly in preventing waterborne diseases and improving overall community well-being.
  • Organize and facilitate community-based activities such as workshops, focus groups, and house-to-house visits, encouraging the adoption of positive health and hygiene behaviors.
  • Mobilize communities to participate in hygiene and health campaigns and ensure that marginalized groups, such as women and girls, have access to essential services.

3. Gender-Sensitive Interventions:

  • Ensure all hygiene and health promotion activities are gender-sensitive, focusing on the specific needs of women, girls, and children in the community.
  • Collaborate with gender-based violence (VAC) teams to integrate hygiene promotion into VAC prevention and response activities, ensuring that women and girls accessing safe spaces receive essential hygiene and health services.
  • Conduct hygiene promotion and health education sessions within transitional center and child care center, promoting safe hygiene practices and access to health services.

4. Capacity Building and Training:

  • Train local community health workers, volunteers, and facilitators on hygiene promotion and health education practices, ensuring the sustainability of activities within the community.
  • Provide technical support to staff working in child protection, VAC, and other health-related programs to integrate hygiene and health components into their activities.

5. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation tools to track the impact of hygiene and health promotion activities on target populations, especially women and children.
  • Collect and analyze data on health and hygiene practices within the community and use findings to adjust interventions and improve program effectiveness.
  • Prepare and submit reports on hygiene and health promotion activities, including progress, challenges, and success stories, ensuring compliance with organizational and donor requirements.

6. Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Coordinate with local health authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of hygiene and health promotion activities.
  • Collaborate with child protection and VAC teams to ensure that hygiene and health promotion are integrated into broader protection and response efforts, especially in vulnerable communities.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with local partners, health providers, and humanitarian organizations to align activities with broader health and protection goals.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in hygiene promotion, health education, or community health work, with a focus on women and children.
  • Proven experience in leading hygiene promotion campaigns and delivering health education in conflict-affected or humanitarian settings.
  • Understanding of gender issues and VAC prevention in Afghanistan, with a focus on hygiene and health promotion.
  • Familiarity with the cultural, social, and health challenges facing women and children in Afghanistan.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with community members, especially women and girls.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with good organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in local languages (Dari and/or Pashto) and strong command of spoken and written English.
  • Strong report writing and data collection skills, with the ability to analyze and present health-related information clearly.

  • Willingness to travel to project sites, including remote areas, as required.
