SUMARRY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:


The Field Engineers are tasked with conducting surveys, designing, and overseeing the implementation of construction and repair plans for shelters in Herat. Additionally, they play a crucial role in supporting and supervising Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities within the community. Their responsibilities ensure that both construction projects and DRR initiatives are executed effectively and meet the project's objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Construction and Repair Implementation:
    • Conduct site assessments and surveys to determine the requirements for shelter construction, repair, and retrofitting.
    • Develop and review technical designs and project plans in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
    • Support the execution of construction and repair activities, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and project timelines.
    • Coordinate with contractors, construction teams, and local authorities to ensure effective project implementation.
    • Monitor progress and quality of work, addressing any issues or deviations from the project plan as they arise.
  2. Technical Support and Supervision:
    • Provide technical guidance and support during all phases of construction and retrofitting.
    • Ensure that materials and methods used meet project standards and quality requirements.
    • Conduct regular site inspections and quality control checks to ensure adherence to engineering practices and safety regulations.
  3. Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Support:
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of DRR activities at the community level.
    • Collaborate with community members and local organizations to promote DRR awareness and practices.
    • Support the development and delivery of DRR training and educational programs.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of DRR initiatives, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
  4. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain detailed records of construction, repair, and retrofitting activities, including progress reports, issues, and resolutions.
    • Prepare regular reports on project status, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and recommendations for further action.
    • Document DRR activities and their impact, providing updates as required.
  5. Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure all construction and DRR activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and safety protocols.
    • Promote a culture of safety and risk management among project staff and stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in civil engineering, construction management, or related fields, preferably with experience in construction of shelters.
 Skills:
        •       Strong technical knowledge of engineering principles and construction practices.
        •       Proficiency in surveying techniques, design software, and project management tools.
        •       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
        •       Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
        •       Knowledge of safety regulations and protocols in construction settings.
        •       Personal Attributes:
        •       Detail-oriented and quality-focused.

Language: Knowledge of English and fluency in local languages.
