The Tanker Driver plays a critical role in the safe and efficient transportation of crude oil and other petroleum products from production sites to designated facilities or storage locations. The Driver is responsible for transporting personnel, equipment, and materials safely and efficiently between designated locations within the company’s operational areas. This role plays a critical part in supporting daily operations, ensuring the timely delivery of supplies, and facilitating smooth transportation for employees, including to and from oilfield sites. The ideal candidate should have an excellent driving record, a solid understanding of vehicle maintenance, and familiarity with transportation protocols within the oil and gas industry. The Driver must prioritize safety at all times and adhere strictly to company policies and local traffic regulations. Experience with operating various vehicles in challenging terrains and extreme weather conditions is essential, particularly for roles involving oilfield sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Transportation of Oil and Petroleum Products
- Safely operate and drive tanker trucks to transport crude oil and other petroleum products to and from production sites, refineries, and storage facilities.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tanker truck, ensuring that all safety and operational standards are met before and after each trip.
- Ensure proper loading and unloading procedures are followed, including verifying the quantities and types of products being transported.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal transportation regulations related to the transportation of hazardous materials.
- Vehicle Operation and Safety:
- Safely operate company vehicles to transport personnel, equipment, and materials as required.
- Follow designated routes and schedules, ensuring timely and accurate transportation services.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and company driving regulations, including speed limits, road signs, and safe driving practices.
- Maintain high awareness of surrounding environments and potential road hazards, particularly when navigating rough or remote terrains associated with oilfield sites.
- Ensure that all passengers are wearing seat belts and that safety protocols are followed during transportation.
- Vehicle Maintenance and Inspections:
- Conduct daily inspections of the assigned vehicle, checking oil levels, tire pressure, lights, brakes, and other critical systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Identify any mechanical issues and report them promptly to the Transportation Supervisor or Maintenance Department for repairs.
- Keep the vehicle clean, both inside and out, and ensure that all documentation (such as insurance and registration) is up to date and stored properly.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities in the company’s vehicle management system.
- Logistics Support and Coordination:
- Assist in loading and unloading materials, equipment, and supplies, ensuring proper handling and secure placement during transportation.
- Coordinate with logistics and operations teams to plan transportation activities, minimize delays, and optimize routes.
- Participate in transporting heavy equipment, machinery, and hazardous materials, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and site coordinators to confirm schedules, coordinate transportation activities, and address any issues that arise during transit.
- Emergency Response and Support:
- Respond promptly to emergency transportation requests, such as medical evacuations or equipment breakdowns, ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers and cargo.
- Assist in emergency response drills and support HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) teams by transporting personnel and materials to emergency sites.
- Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures and the use of safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and emergency communication devices.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Complete and submit daily vehicle inspection checklists, trip reports, and any other required documentation to the Transportation Supervisor.
- Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses to the HSE and Transportation Departments, providing detailed accounts and cooperating in investigations.
- Maintain a logbook of trips, including dates, times, destinations, and any relevant observations.
- Compliance and Training:
- Attend safety training sessions and participate in driver competency evaluations as required by the company.
- Keep up-to-date with industry regulations, company policies, and best practices related to transportation safety and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all company security policies and procedures, particularly when transporting sensitive equipment or working in restricted areas.
