Program Description: The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Position: TB nurse
Location/ Venue: Health Facility ( New Aioby private Hospital)
Supervisor (whom to report): Head of Health Facility/clinical mentor
Main Responsibilities
1. Planning and conduction of health promotion and health education sessions for tuberculosis in
waiting area.
2. Presumptive case detection within the OPD patients.
3. Registration of all presumptive cases in presumptive register.
4. Recording vital signs of presumptive cases.
5. Ensure that all retreated case is tested by GeneXpert.
6. Ensure that all pulmonary TB smear positive cases are tested by GeneXpert.
7. Treatment initiation for newly diagnose patients.
8. Monthly treatment follows up of under treatment patients
9. Smear microscopy follow up of pulmonary TB smear positive case during treatment (m2, m3 or
m4, and m6)
10. Recording and reporting of side effects during treatment.
11. Consulting of critical TB patients and or side effect during treatment with medical doctor or
clinical specialist.
12. Sample sending for MDR TB case detection.
13. Referral of MDR TB Cases to MDR center.
14. Contact tracing of household (newly diagnose or retreated patients).
15. Planning patients for Gastric lavage (children and other extra pulmonary TB) patients
16. Active participation in ward round to find presumptive cases in IPD.
17. Active participation in training and workshop for capacity building
18. Proper implementation of IPC measures in OPD and IPD regarding to TB.
19. Ensure that enough stock of anti TB medication is existed (quarterly and two quarterly).
20. Prepared monthly and quarterly report of TB
21. Some tasks may add if needed during practice.
2: Pregnant and Lactating Mothers’ Counseling
Counseling of lactating mothers about proper methods of nutrition during pregnancy including
importance of daily iron and folic acid supplements.
Ensure that pregnant women receive adequate iron and folic acid supplements from health facility.
Promotion of Iodized salt consumption.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Graduate from nursing course and TB DOTS initial training certificate is an advantage.
At least having 2‐year TB DOTS experience in health facility and familiarity with HMIS tools and reporting format.

Ability to work successfully in teams, across a diverse team in a complex environment with multiple tasks,short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform
Strong skills in facilitation, team building, and coordination
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including strong writing and communication skills in local languages Pashto and Dari.
