Alongside the Ministry of Public Health, AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive Health since its inception. A committed team of more than 600 experts are working in 11 provinces of Afghanistan to achieve AFGA goals and objectives. AFGA provides health services to the most vulnerable and hard to reach communities through over 140 service delivery points.  

About Hospital:

AFGA is in the process of establishment of a 20-bed hospital in Kabul, aimed at providing quality Reproductive Health services to mothers and newborns. The hospital will be fully equipped with modern medical equipment, facilities and staffed by experts.

As part of a long-term development plan, hospital services will continuously expand, serving as the central hub for AFGA outreach and small Service Delivery Points (SDPs) to refer patients needing advanced care. The hospital will adhere to national and international standards for patient safety and quality service, ensuring it meets the needs of target communities.

Summary of the job:

Despite the overwhelming evidence of the potential benefit of family planning (FP) in reducing maternal mortality, unfortunately, most women delivered in hospitals in Afghanistan leave without receiving family planning counseling. This constitutes a huge missed opportunity to understand the fertility needs of women in the post-partum phase and counsel them on how to space the following pregnancy to ensure good health for them and their next babies

Responsibilities

  • Provide family planning related counselling, information and effective communication

on family planning methods, including contraception, fertility, and family planning options

  • Conducting comprehensive sexual and reproductive health assessments with patients.
  • Discussing the risks, benefits, and appropriate use of various contraceptive methods, such as oral contraceptives, IUDs, implants, condoms, etc.
  • Ensure confidentiality and client trust during counseling.
  • Having good communication skill and attitude.
  • Using different participatory methodologies for counseling including using of audio-visual materials.
  • Provide the client with the counseling necessary contraceptive method
  • Provide family planning method according to the client’s choice.
  • Keep required postpartum follow up system including registration.
  • . Maintaining detailed and accurate patient records, documenting all counseling sessions and treatment plans.
  • Tracking the postpartum clients throughout the follow up visits, home visits and mobile phone inquiries.
  • Prepare monthly report of related activities and submit to supervisor.
  • Work closely with maternity wards to ensure the recently delivered women received the PPFP counseling.
  • Any other job given by supervisor.
  • Workshops to community outreach, and other initiatives to promote family planning and reproductive health.
  • Collaborating with the healthcare team to coordinate comprehensive reproductive healthcare for patients.
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of family planning methods, guidelines, and emerging research.
  • Respect all rules and regulations of the AFGA and adhere safeguarding policy
  • She will report to Chief gynecology

Job Requirements:

  • Be certified Midwife or a bachelor degree of Nursing from recognized Nursing health Education Program.
  • Completion of a family planning counselling training, HMIS training, Family training, BEmNOC, CmNOC, NBC BCC.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience providing family planning and reproductive health counselling.
  • Knowledge of contraceptive methods, sexually transmitted infections, and pregnancy options. Knowledge of Family planning issues.
  • At least two years working experience in the same field
  • Fluency of local language Pashtu and Dari and should know English
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact successfully with clients
