About ACDO:

Asia Community Development Organization (ACDO) is an Afghan non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit humanitarian organization established in 2014 and registered with the Government of Afghanistan under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy (MoEc) with a mission to provide humanitarian and development assistance to the vulnerable, at-risk, and underserved people throughout the country.

ACDO responds to the needs of disadvantaged and marginalized rural and urban communities by managing and utilizing the available scarce resources in a well-managed, efficient, transparent, and dignified manner to enhance resilience, boost access to education, ensure food and livelihood security, and promote social protection and inclusion.

ACDO has an active presence in at least nine provinces in five regions of the country and intends to expand its operations to the remaining provinces as well, as to transform itself into a leading and developed organization that will deliver to and support a significant number of people who have been affected by the long-protracted and sudden on-set emergencies in Afghanistan. Regardless of the most challenging circumstances in Afghanistan in 2022 and 2021, ACDO has managed to deliver humanitarian and development assistance in most parts of the country.

Job Descriptions:

Education counselors perform various functions in helping students make better career choices and become successful learners. An education counselor counsels individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational or vocational situations; confers with parents or guardians; teachers, administrators, and other professionals to discuss children's progress, and to resolve behavioral, academic, and other issues. The role holder will be expected to work outside the standard role profile and in various working hours accordingly.

 

Job Description:

  • Counsels Literacy learners to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational or vocational situations.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • to address both the psychological and social needs of Literacy learners and literacy facilitators.
  • Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, other counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral, academic, and other problems.
  • Provide crisis intervention to students when emergencies occur at schools.
  • Identify cases involving domestic abuse or other family problems affecting students' development.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their relatives’ progress, and to determine their priorities for their children/relatives and their resource needs.
  • Prepare BGL beneficiaries for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Encourage students and/or parents to seek additional assistance from mental health professionals when necessary.
  • Enforce all administrative policies and rules governing students.
  • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students' needs and progress.
  • Attend staff meetings related to the issues faced by students in their academic and personal lives.
  • Listen to the problems of Literacy learner regularly, especially when it has to do with their academic, social, or emotional lives, and suggest solutions where necessary.
  • Refer students to social welfare homes or a psychiatric/mental counselor, especially in extreme cases.
  • Review both current and past reports about the student(s), in a bid to check their progress levels and also to make further recommendations if needed.
  • Make sure that the student's parents or guardians are actively involved in the development and administration of intervention procedures when the need arises.
  • Observe children during class and perform activities to gain additional information about them.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision BGL program.
  • Prepare reports on students and activities as required by the administration.
  • Any other related task as assigned by the project officer or senior management team (SMT).

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • At least a Bachelor's degree in psychology and other relevant field
  • Experience in a relevant or similar position in humanitarian projects is required.

Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills in Pashto and Dari, skills in English will also be an asset.
  • the ability to build trust and make students and parents feel relaxed
  • Enough experience working with community, and community mobilization, particularly for community participation, conflict resolution, and resource mobilization.
  • Knowledge of the value of education in Holy Islam, child development, and the current trends of education in Afghanistan.
  • Ability to cope well under pressure, work irregular hours, and meet tight deadlines
  • Sound organizational skills and ability to prioritize and deliver assignments promptly often under severe time pressures
  • Good knowledge and experience in the Afghanistan education system/context, and child protection (CP)
  • Experience in coordination with government authorities, communities, donors, and beneficiaries
  • Able to visit all districts of the target province.

Language skills:

  • Fluent oral and written skills in Pashto and Dari, fluent in English is a plus point
