About AWEC:

AWEC is a non-political, non-profit, woman-headed national organization established in 1991 by a group of educated Afghan women in exile, who rallied together to address the lack of facilities for Afghan refugees in Islamabad and eventually Peshawar, in Pakistan. AWEC has always been involved in advocacy and awareness-raising for women and children’s rights while providing services to those who frequently fall through safety nets. In recent years, one of AWEC’s core activities has been to support women through mobilizing Afghans, from local communities to political elites, towards the goal of reducing and eventually eliminating violence against women.

Job Descriptions:

1. Background:

AWEC is embarking on a healthcare professional development initiative in Nangarhar province, with a focus on enhancing the capacity of healthcare professionals in critical areas such as WASH practices, infection prevention and control, vector management, Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD)/cholera prevention, healthcare waste management, and MHM kits usage. To achieve this goal, AWEC seeks two qualified Female & Male (Couple) MD Trainers to deliver evidence-based and contextually relevant training sessions in 10 Health Care Facilities (HCFs) across three districts (Shinwari, Nazyan and Hesarak) of Nangarhar province.

2. Objectives:

The primary objective of this consultancy is to provide comprehensive and targeted training to healthcare professionals in Nangarhar province, aiming to:

- Improve knowledge, skills, and practices related to WASH practices, infection prevention and control, vector management, AWD/cholera prevention, healthcare waste management, and MHM kits usage.

- Enhance the capacity of healthcare professionals to implement evidence-based strategies for disease prevention and control, particularly in resource-limited settings.

3. Scope of Work:

The MD Trainer will be responsible for the following tasks:

- Delivery of interactive and participatory training sessions in 10 designated Health Care Facilities, ensuring engagement and understanding among participants.

- Provision of post-training support and follow-up activities to facilitate the effective implementation of learned practices.

- Submission of detailed reports documenting training activities, participant feedback, and outcomes.

4. Topics to be Covered:

The training sessions should cover the following topics in-depth, ensuring that the content is evidence-based, up-to-date, and relevant to the context of the healthcare facility or setting:

- WASH Practices: Hand hygiene, sanitation, safe water handling, and environmental cleanliness.

- Infection Prevention and Control: Standard precautions, personal protective equipment (PPE), and waste management.

- Vector Management: Strategies for controlling vectors such as mosquitoes and flies.

- AWD/Cholera Prevention: Symptoms, transmission routes, prevention measures, and treatment.

- Healthcare Waste Management: Segregation, handling, storage, and disposal of healthcare waste.

- MHM Kits Usage: Comprehensive understanding and utilization of menstrual hygiene management kits.

Job Requirements:

5. Qualifications and Requirements:

(One couple) Male and Female.

The MD Trainer should possess the following qualifications and experience:

- Medical Doctor (MD) degree with specialization or significant experience in public health or related field.

- Proven experience in delivering training programs on healthcare-related topics, preferably in resource-limited settings or humanitarian contexts.

- Strong understanding of the specified topics, with the ability to translate complex concepts into practical and actionable training modules.

- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and foster interactive learning environments.

- Fluency in English and Dari/Pashto languages is highly desirable.

- Flexibility and willingness to travel to remote and marginalized areas within Ghor province.

6. Duration:

The consultancy is expected to commence on [start date] and conclude on [end date], with a total duration of [ 20 official] days.
