The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity, and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home.
The IRC is the recipient of a new, USAID-funded 5 year basic education program, named the Accessible and Quality Basic Education (AQBE), Afghanistan. The AQBE will support more than 200,000 children in both public and CBE education across 8 provinces to address key barriers and challenges facing equitable access to quality learning through:
The AQBE project, under the leadership of the Chief of Party (COP), is housed by the IRC, but includes a dedicated Project Management Unit (PMU), who is in charge of ensuring coordination across the 7 AQBE partners, technical standardization for all project delivery, and transparency, accountability and reporting to USAID for all supported activities.
The PMU IR4 lead will ensure quality control over technical deliverables developed, adapted,
and delivered under IR4, which focuses on ensuring access to school for out of school girls, and ensure that there is an equitable targeting of males and females in education programs. The IR4
lead, with an additional gender focus, will convene and lead the TWG on IR4 deliverables,
including Home Based Remedial models, that are specific to IR4. For teacher trainings
developed under IR1, the IR4 lead will ensure a gender equity lens, and ensure that female
trainings are planned and executed by IPs. The IR4 lead will ensure that all block grants are
overseen and managed in a transparent fashion, in direct coordination with the DFA and the
Steering Committee members, and that reallocations of block grants based on crisis
modification is communicated upwards to the Technical Director and DCOP
