The Afghanistan Educational and Health Development Aids Organization (AEHDA) is a non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian, and non-governmental humanitarian organization, led by women. Job Descriptions:

1. Background

AEHDA is committed to addressing the psychological and mental health needs of marginalized and vulnerable populations, particularly in conflict-affected regions. The MHPSS Medical Doctor and Consultant will play a critical role in enhancing AEHDA’s capacity to provide effective, high-quality mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services to underserved communities.

2. Purpose of the Role

The MHPSS Medical Doctor and Consultant will oversee the implementation of MHPSS services, providing both expert medical consultation and hands-on leadership in the field. This role involves clinical assessment, direct support to the field team, development of care protocols, and comprehensive reporting to support AEHDA’s mission.

3. Responsibilities

3.1 Project Implementation and Leadership

  • Lead the field team in the implementation of MHPSS services, ensuring adherence to established protocols and standards.
  • Provide daily expert consultation to support the field team, addressing clinical queries, guiding treatment decisions, and enhancing service quality.
  • Oversee the delivery of MHPSS services, addressing any challenges that arise to ensure effective program operation.

3.2 Clinical Assessment and Care Management

  • Conduct psychological assessments for individuals requiring MHPSS services, using validated tools and methods to determine care needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with other health team members.
  • Coordinate with relevant partners and facilities for referrals to specialized services when required.

3.3 Training and Capacity Building

  • Provide training sessions for health workers to improve their understanding of MHPSS protocols, psychological assessment techniques, and crisis intervention.
  • Conduct continuous on-the-job coaching and support for field health workers, enhancing their skills and knowledge in MHPSS practices.

3.4 Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare regular reports, summarizing field activities, challenges encountered, lessons learned, and recommendations for future program enhancement.
  • Document clinical assessments, referrals, and care outcomes accurately, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with AEHDA’s data management policies.

4. Required Qualifications

  • Medical Doctor (MD) degree with specialized training in mental health, psychiatry, or MHPSS services.
  • Minimum of [5 years] of relevant experience in providing MHPSS services, preferably in humanitarian or conflict-affected settings.
  • Proven expertise in conducting psychological assessments, developing care plans, and coordinating MHPSS interventions.

5. Skills and Competencies

  • Strong clinical skills in MHPSS, including psychological assessment and treatment planning.
  • Leadership and team management experience in field settings.
  • Excellent communication and training skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in [Specify Languages, Pashto, and English].

6. Reporting

The MHPSS Medical Doctor and Consultant will report to the Project Manager on a [weekly/monthly] donor project basis, providing detailed updates on project implementation, challenges, and field-based outcomes.
