The Afghanistan Educational and Health Development Aids Organization (AEHDA) is a non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian, and non-governmental humanitarian organization, led by women. Initially established as an association in July 2003, AEHDA was re-registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with the Ministry of Economy (MoEc) of Afghanistan in late 2020, under registration number 5085.

AEHDA is an active member of key national and international bodies, including the National Health Cluster, the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Technical Working Group (MHPSS TWG), the National Nutrition Cluster, the Food Security and Agriculture Cluster (FSA), ACBAR, UNGM (#903905), UNDP, and the UNPORTAL.

Job Descriptions:

1. Background

AEHDA is dedicated to supporting the mental health and psychosocial needs of marginalized and vulnerable populations in conflict-affected areas. The MHPSS Counselor will provide specialized counseling services, helping to address the psychological well-being of individuals and families in need. This role is crucial to expanding AEHDA’s impact in providing effective, high-quality mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services.

2. Purpose of the Role

The MHPSS Counselor will be fully committed, dedicating 100% of their time to providing direct counseling, guidance, and support for individuals requiring MHPSS services. Additionally, the MHPSS Counselor will deliver regular reports to the field officer, aligning with their monthly operational plan and performance targets. This focus on counseling and reporting supports AEHDA’s goal of delivering impactful, client-centered MHPSS interventions.

3. Key Responsibilities

3.1 Counseling and Direct Support

  • Provide one-on-one and group counseling sessions, utilizing culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Conduct psychological assessments and develop individualized care plans based on identified needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and a supportive environment for all clients, ensuring respectful and compassionate care.

3.2 Reporting and Documentation

  • Submit daily and monthly reports on counseling activities, summarizing progress, challenges, and outcomes according to AEHDA’s reporting standards.
  • Document all counseling sessions and assessments accurately, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with AEHDA’s data management policies.
  • Regularly update the field officer on progress, aligning with monthly operational plans and targets.

3.3 Support for Field Team Operations

  • Work closely with the field officer to provide insights and feedback on client needs, service quality, and areas for improvement.
  • Assist in planning and implementing community outreach and awareness activities to raise understanding of MHPSS services and encourage utilization.
  • Participate in team meetings and case discussions to support coordinated care delivery.

 

6. Reporting

The MHPSS Counselor will report directly to the Field Officer, providing daily updates and submitting monthly reports on counseling activities, progress, and outcomes.

7.   PSEA Policy:

AEHDA maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy for Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA). AEHDA does not tolerate any form of sexual misconduct, and all potential candidates will undergo thorough background checks and vetting processes.

Job Requirements:

4. Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field (Bachelor, Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of [3 years] experience in providing counseling or MHPSS services, preferably in humanitarian or conflict-affected settings.
  • Proven expertise in delivering culturally appropriate, trauma-informed counseling.
  • Knowledge of community-based psychosocial approaches and familiarity with MHPSS standards and best practices.

5. Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect effectively and empathetically with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent assessment and counseling skills, with experience in trauma-informed care.
  • Proficient in documentation and reporting practices, with attention to detail and adherence to confidentiality protocols.
  • Fluency in [Pashto Languages ].
