The Aga Khan University Academic Projects, Afghanistan (AKU-APA) is an extension of the Aga Khan University (AKU), chartered as an international University with campuses and academic programs in eight countries across three continents. AKU-APA, through various academic entities of AKU has been supporting national academic institutions in Afghanistan since 2002 for their capacity building. These include Ghazanfar Institute of Health Sciences (GIHS), Kabul and its regional institutions of Health Sciences, for nursing and midwifery education, Kabul Medical University for it baccalaureate program in nursing and for post graduate medical education (PGME), Ministry of Public Health for its Mental Health and Drug Dependency Resistance Program and also for its human resource redevelopment and teachers training programs. It is supporting the PGME program of French Medical Institute for Children (FMIC), Kabul. AKU-APA is also managed, mother and childcare research projects, Stunting Prevention Operational Research in Badakhshan. AKU also awarded scholarships to bright Afghan students to study baccalaureate and masters program in Nursing, Medicine and Education at the Aga Khan University Karachi.

AKU is one of the entities of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of international development agencies and institutions that implement programs in rural development, education, health, culture, microfinance and private sector development. The overarching goal of the Network is to alleviate poverty and promote economic development to raise the standard of living. In Afghanistan, the Network has been contributing to the reconstruction of the country since 1997 through its constituent agencies. Health programs are being implemented by the Aga Khan Health Service (AKHS, A), while Health Education programs being implemented by the Aga Khan University Academic Projects in Afghanistan (AKU-APA), and the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF, A).

Job Summary:

Responsible for collecting household data using tablets on household composition, socio-economic status, dietary habits, child’s age, birth weight, breastfeeding practices, history of child and maternal illnesses, and take anthropometric measurements and measure hemoglobin levels in PBW.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• To supervise data collection activities in the field
• To ensure quality and validity of data collected from the study participants
• To visit different households in the communities to ensure successful completion of data collection in the study areas
• To follow and ensure field implementation of project related SOPs / guidelines as defined in the research project
• To perform all other duties assigned to him/her from time-to-time by the study coordinator
