Alongside the Ministry of Public Health, AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive Health since its inception. AFGA is a fully accredited member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and an important partner of UNFPA.

A committed team of more than 600 experts are working in 11 provinces of Afghanistan to achieve AFGA goals and objectives. AFGA provides health services to the most vulnerable and hard to reach communities through over 140 service delivery points.  

About Hospital:

AFGA is in the process of establishment of a 20-bed hospital in Kabul, aimed at providing quality Reproductive Health services to mothers and newborns. The hospital will be fully equipped with modern medical equipment, facilities and staffed by experts.

As part of a long-term development plan, hospital services will continuously expand, serving as the central hub for AFGA outreach and small Service Delivery Points (SDPs) to refer patients needing advanced care. The hospital will adhere to national and international standards for patient safety and quality service, ensuring it meets the needs of target communities.

Job Descriptions:

Summary of the job:

The anesthetist He / She is responsible for assessing patients' health and determining the most appropriate type of anesthesia (general, local, or spinal). He/She will administer anesthesia before surgery, closely monitor patients' vital signs during the procedure, and ensure proper post-operative care. In addition, the anesthetist is responsible for responding to any emergencies that may arise during surgery

Responsibilities

  • Assess whether a patient is fit enough to undertake an operation before surgery takes place
  • Agree on an anesthetic plan
  • reassure patients about what will happen during and after the operation
  • Get patients ready for surgery
  • Initiate anesthesia, providing safe pre-operative care and pain relief to patients using anesthetics and analgesics
  • Continue anesthesia in the operating theatre
  • Monitor patients while they're under anesthesia to make sure they remain in a stable condition, checking their blood pressure, heart activity, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, breathing and body temperature, for example.
  • Maintain detailed medical records and documentation for each patient receiving anesthesia
  • Resuscitate and stabilize patients during emergencies
  • Relieve and manage post-operative pain to support patients' recovery
  • Work with a range of other health professionals, such as surgeons, practitioners, theatre nurses, radiographers and radiologists, to ensure patient wellbeing
  • Attend multidisciplinary team meetings both on and off-site
  • Participate in an agreed on-call and take on an equal share in providing emergency cover

Job Requirements:

  • Holding MD degree from recognized university
  • Completion of an anesthesiology residency program typically 4 years. 
  • Holding certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • 2-3 years of working experience as anesthesiologist at one of the recognized hospitals is required.
  • Able to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure and provide 24/7 patient care.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of anesthetics and procedures
  • Have the ability to organize and priorities his/her workload
  • Strong communication skills of local languages, both written and spoken
  • Steady hand-eye coordination
  • Teamworking skills
  • The ability to work well under pressure
