Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.

The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

Since 2003 AKHS, A is implementing Healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary Healthcare, Preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. The current working modality and role of AKHS, A in Bamyan and Badakhshan provinces as BPHS and EPHS implementer. AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwifery.

AKHS, A tapped into internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary supports to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A scale up AKDN innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission.

Job Descriptions:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Makes daily rounds of all patients in the unit, reviews and assesses patients' health status, and identifies patients' needs.
  • Maintains a safe practice and environment for the patient and nurse at all times, especially in the areas of medication administration, IV therapy, catheter and skin care etc
  • Ensuring that an Initial Nursing Assessment has been done on every patient at the time of admission
  • Ensures that the nurse makes adequate discharge arrangements to guarantee that the care given to patients is of appropriate standard.
  • Is observant of the patients' needs and requirements and assists the nurse where appropriate in providing care to meet those needs which is within the total care plan of the patient.
  • Demonstrates professional nursing practice by working with nurses at the bedside.
  • Understands that he/She is be responsible for 24 hour provision of patient care
  • In conjunction with the Unit manager, set annual goals and objectives for self and unit
  • Plans nursing care and health teaching for patients with the nurses according to the patients' needs.
  • Allocates assignments on a regular basis and In emergency situations, to team members based on their skill and experience.
  • Ensures that the appropriate duty exchange forms are completed and accurately filled

 

  • Makes round with consultants and ensures that patient requirements are met
  • Once equipment is received in the unit, maintain an equipment list and to ensure that equipment is available, functioning and serviced on a regular basis
  • Ensures that the crash cart has been checked daily and all drugs and equipment are available and in good working condition
  • Conducts a spot-check on every patient daily, to ensure that the Initial assessment Form, Nursing Process Record, The Vital signs chart, Patient Education Record and the Input/output chart is completed by the other nurses
  • Participates in the Nursing Division Nursing Quality Assurance audit program
  • Ensures that quality performance targets are met and to rectifies areas of sub-optimal performance
  • Attends relevant Mortality and Morbidity meetings and ensures that active follow-up is done with the recommendations and conclusions from there-in
  • Assumes responsibility for personal development and implementation of unit based in-service programs
  • Ensures that all infection control practice is up-to-date and in line with set standards and practice
  • In collaboration with the Infection Control Committee, Infection Control Surveillance Nurse, does ongoing spot-checks on all aspects of Infection Control
  • Adheres to hospital policies in nursing care delivery and makes every effort to expand skills.
  • Attends to any other related task as assigned by supervisor

  

Job Requirements:

  • Good communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Educational: Registered nurse (RN) with current licensure with the Afghanistan Nursing Council
  • Working experience of 2 years in Nursing
  • Should be received the required trainings at pediatric and nutrition
  • Spoken and written English language skills
  • Experience in training other Nurses
  • Able to work independently and can take initiative
  • Flexible team player
