Program Description: The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Job overview:
Midwife is responsible for provision of reproductive health with more focus on FP services. Moreover, she
is in charge of imparting health education, FP commodities distribution for clients at health facility.
Main Responsibilities:
Filling registers as well as recording essential data related to the reproductive health’s clients
especially FP registration.
Conducting FP consolation seeking FP service at health facility.
Performing ANC examinations, general physical examinations and checking vaccination card for
prescription of TTs vaccination when needed in FP room.
Conduction of daily health education sessions for the female clients at health facility.
Provision of information to mothers regarding plans and arrangements for delivery.
Recommendation of prophylactic treatments for women in alignment with guidelines and
standard protocols.
Spotting women with danger signs and symptoms and referring them to medical doctor.
Giving awareness about ANC, PNC and family planning to women and highlighting their
importance.
Active contribution in the IP, HMIS and QI committees.
Proper maintenance of accommodations and materials within MCH and FP rooms.
Coordination with the rest of the staff to provide better health services.
Preparing of monthly reports of institutional delivery, family planning, ANC and PNC along with
daily usage of tally sheets and HMIS forms.
Consideration of hygiene in MCH and FP rooms.
Having appropriate attitude and behavior with clients, patients and health workers.
Fulfillment of jobs assigned by head of health facility or related supervisor.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Graduate degree – Midwifery certificate from the recognized universities along passing the exit
exam.
At least having 2 years clinical experience working in BPHS health facilities and familiarity with
HMIS tools and reporting format
Attending midwifery competency-based training and demonstrating competency skills is
advantageous
Abilities/Skills:
Ability to work successfully in teams, across a diverse team in a complex environment with
multiple tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform
Strong skills in facilitation, team building, and coordination
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including strong writing and communication skills in Dari, Pashtu
