Program Description: The USAID funded Urban Health Initiative (UHI) Program’s goal is to improve health outcomes of people living in urban areas, particularly focusing on the health of women and children and other vulnerable populations. Interventions aim to increase demand, access and quality of health services. Lead by Jhpiego and implemented by a dynamic consortium of organizations, UHI is implemented in five cities in Afghanistan – Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
Position Overview
The Medical Doctor (MD) will be based in UHI priority HFs of Kabul city and will work to manage all OPD, newborn and pediatric cases in the HFs
Position Reports To: Cluster Manager
Supervisory position: NO
Location: UHI Cluster 13 ‐ Kabul
Responsibilities
Diagnosing and treating illnesses, medical conditions, and injuries.
Ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests.
Collecting, recording, and maintaining patients' information and histories.
Prescribing and administering treatments, therapies, medications, vaccinations, and other
specialized medical care.
Explaining procedures and discussing test results or prescribed treatments with patients and family members.
Monitoring patients' conditions and progress.
Directing, coordinating, consulting with, and referring patients to nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff.
Advising patients, parents, and guardians on diets, activities, hygiene, and disease prevention.
Conducting research and remaining up to date on current trends, discoveries, and developments in the field.
Qualification Required:
Having at least MD (Medical Doctor) Degree or higher (specialization in internal medicine or surgery)
At least two years of clinical experience in a similar position after completing the MD course
Willingness to work in unstable areas
Adaptable and able to work in a multicultural team
Able to provide training and supervision to others
Abilities/Skills:
Ability to work successfully in teams, across a diverse team in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
Strong skills in facilitation, team building and coordination
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including strong writing, analytical and communication skills in Dari, Pashtu and English (preferable)
