About Concern Worldwide- Afghanistan:

Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Currently, Concern has been working in Afghanistan since 1998, when it responded to an earthquake disaster in Takhar province. Currently Concern has been working in Takhar and Badakhshan provinces undertaking both emergency response and long term developmental work in the areas of livelihood security, primary education and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. 

Job Descriptions:

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Technical assistance and project management

  • Oversee the implementation of life skills activities in target communities
  • Prepare and adapt life skills training manuals for in-person and digital learning
  • Provide capacity building and ongoing support to life skills trainers in communities, identify needs and address potential challenges
  • Provide guidance on approaches to ensure meaningful participation of women, youth and people with disabilities in all project interventions and identify barriers
  • Support project team to conduct assessments with a focus on equality and inclusion to understand opportunities and barriers for women, youth and people with disabilities
  • Foster culture of equality and inclusion in workplace through capacity building and awareness raising sessions.
  • Identify progressive religious leaders and influential community members to build on their competencies and engage them to empower of women, youth and people with disabilities in their respective communities.
  • Ensure that the project follows Concern Worldwide and international standards for the inclusion of women, girls, youth, and people with disabilities
  • Conduct regular field visits to the project locations
  • Take up other tasks that may be assigned by the line manager, AIYA Project Manager, and / or Concern’s management to support organisational inclusion goals and needs.

Coordination:

  • Develop linkages and coordination with clusters, consortium partners and relevant stakeholders to promote equality, inclusion, and empowerment, and share knowledge.
  • Participate in gender- and inclusion regional and national working groups, inter-agency task forces and other gender- and inclusion coordination meetings.

Monitoring and impact assessment:

  • Support the MEAL Team with developing qualitative and quantitative indicators to monitor project progress for inclusion, women and youth empowerment, and impact of life skills trainings
  • Develop improvement plans and adapt the implementation approaches as needed to ensure achievement of project outputs, outcomes and impacts
  • Support the capture of lessons learnt and integration of these into future programming
  • Develop case studies, success stories and other related documentations.

Reporting and communication:

  • Provide inputs to monthly, quarterly, and annual reports regarding life skills, women, and youth in accordance to Concern and donor’s requirements
  • Liaise with operational departments for trainings and activities related to life skills, gender, and inclusion
  • Participate in stakeholders meeting at global, national, and provincial level, when needed

Emergency/Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS):

  • Concern is committed to CHS to ensure downward accountability. CHS standards guide Concern activities in all stages both emergency and development projects /programs. In Afghanistan, we also bounded our activities by Accountability framework and therefore any Afghanistan employees is responsible to comply with CHS principles and benchmarks as instructed by its policies and therefore make sure that all accept and implement CHS standards in all our activities.
  • To give full support in relation to emergencies/ humanitarian operations when occurring in any area that Concern Afghanistan will respond. This can include but is not limited to participation in the Concern Afghanistan Rapid Deployment Unit (CARDU) and deployment on emergency response teams.

Job Requirements:

Qualification & Experience:

  • Degree in Development, Education, Agriculture, Psychology, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, or other relevant field.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in development programming.
  • Technical experience in and understanding of gender-sensitive programming, life skills or personal development curricula, and engagement of women and youth.
  • Thematic knowledge of education, agriculture, livelihoods and/or vocational training.
  • Demonstrates awareness a sensitivity to gender, inclusion and diversity

Desirable:

  • Experience working in an international organisation.
  • Experience developing training curricula focused on life skills or personal development.
  • Experience with digital learning.
  • Experience with project coordination across multiple locations.

Competencies & Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication ability both in Dari and English language
  • Able to work on a diverse range of topics while maintaining high standards.
  • Strong cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint (MS Office).
  • Excellent English and Dari (Reading, Writing, and Speaking)
  • Strong interpersonal and team work skills,  and ability to develop, share, and implement innovative ideas with flexibility
  • Able to advice on technical subjects in an accessible, engaging, and collaborative  manner
