About Youth Health and Development Organization (YHDO):
YHDO is a non-governmental and non-for-profit organization established in 2009, registered with ministry of economy in Afghanistan. YHDO works with interdisciplinary professionals to develop and implement innovative, culturally appropriate, evidence based interventions

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating theatre and surgical instruments before each procedure
• Assist the surgical team during operations by providing sterile instruments and materials
• Ensure strict adherence to aseptic and sterile techniques
• Monitor patients’ vital signs during surgery (under guidance) and assist in recovery
• Maintain accurate surgical records, including sponge/instrument counts
• Manage inventory of OT supplies and request replenishment as needed
• Ensure proper disinfection and sterilization of instruments and surgical area
• Cooperate with anesthesia and surgical teams for coordinated patient care
• Handle emergency surgical cases promptly and professionally
• Comply with IPC, patient safety, and quality standards at all times
• Participate in regular ward rounds and shift handovers (night duty)

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a recognized institution
• Valid registration with the Afghanistan Nurses and Midwives Council (ANMC)
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as an OT nurse
• Experience in general surgery, orthopedics, or obstetric surgeries is preferred
• Strong understanding of infection control, sterile processing, and patient monitoring
