Job Descriptions:

 

Purpose of the Role:

The GBV Officer will play a key role in integrating GBV prevention and response within the project’s emergency food and meal intervention. The officer will ensure gender-sensitive and survivor-centered approaches in beneficiary selection, community engagement, and service provision, and will work closely with community workers, CFF, health and community kitchen staff, and MEAL to ensure safety, dignity, and protection principles are upheld throughout implementation.

Job Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

1. GBV Risk Mitigation and Mainstreaming

  • Ensure GBV risk mitigation is embedded in all stages of cash assistance and community kitchen programming.
  • Provide technical input to ensure distributions and meal services are conducted in a safe, accessible, and dignified manner for women and girls.
  • Identify protection and GBV concerns during field visits and advise on immediate and long-term mitigation measures.

2. Awareness Raising and Community Engagement

  • Conduct awareness sessions with community, especially women and girls, on available GBV services, rights, and support mechanisms.
  • Work with community workers to ensure inclusive messaging on GBV prevention and response during mobilization efforts.

3. Case Identification and Referral

  • Identify and refer the cases of GBV among returnees and host communities in line with the survivor-centered approach.
  • Establish or strengthen referral pathways and coordinate referrals to appropriate health, psychosocial, legal, and protection services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protection of survivor information at all times.

4. Capacity Building and Coordination

  • Provide GBV orientation and training to project staff (community workers, CK staff, cash officers) on gender sensitivity, survivor-centered care, and referral protocols.
  • Liaise with GBV sub-cluster, Protection cluster, and other relevant actors for coordination and updating service maps.

5. Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation

  • Collect data related to GBV trends and protection issues in project areas, ensuring safe and ethical data collection.
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly reports with protection/GBV updates, challenges, and key achievements.
  • Support CARE’s and WASSA’s accountability mechanisms by ensuring GBV-related complaints are handled appropriately.
