About Afghan Family Guidance Association |AFGA:

Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world

Job Descriptions:

  • Growth monitoring of all under two years of children and registering them.
  • Proper nutritional counseling for pregnant and lactating women and mothers of all under two years children on appropriate infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices.
  • Conduct anthropometric measurements (weight, height, and age), MUAC, and edema of all under-five children.
  • Classification of all under-five children in the category of well-nourished, Moderate
  • Acute Malnutrition (MAM), and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM).
  • Refer to proper services based on classification to address nutritional status.
  • Regular standard Nutrition education provision to all FHH clients particularly pregnant and lactating women.
  • Conducting regular food demonstration sessions for the FHH coverage area clients.
  • Taking part in CHW monthly meetings and ensuring nutrition issues are supported.
  •  Identify beneficiaries who require follow-up visits and share information with CHSs/CHWs
  • Maintain regular reports to monitor and track delivery of nutrition services.
  • Providing psychosocial services considering clients’ culture and age.
  • Providing of awareness raising regarding PSS related activities, PSS support and protection related issues.
  • Ensuring the integration of mental/ PSS services in AFGA Eartquake response services through full engagement participating in health education activities in community level.
  • Providing PSS counselling with individuals and groups as needed.
  • Providing RH services through FHHs in case of backup needed for the FHH main midwife.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduated from a well-known midwifery , Nursing  institute and completed the MoPH exit exam, or Graduated from registered university as psychology or sociology field of study.
  • At least 2 years of working experience in the field of nutrition and PSS services with national and international NGOs.
  • Attended basic nutrition training, particularly MIYCN
  • Ability to develop activity plans and reports.
  • Fluent in local languages (Pashto and Dari).
