About Afghan Family Guidance Association |AFGA:

Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world

Job Descriptions:

  • To provide skilled birth attendant services to the mothers who attend the health facility during their work time.
  • Provide at least four ANC services for each pregnant woman during the whole period of pregnancy according to the MoPH guidelines.
  • Teach danger signs of pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum to each mother during the pregnancy and postpartum phases.
  • Provide advice to pregnant women and mothers-in-law about the delivery plan and giving birth at a health facility.
  • Provide Postnatal Care (PNC) services to the mother and newborn at least four times after delivery.
  • Advise mothers on breastfeeding and the importance of colostrum.
  • Advise mothers on newborns and SBA women about vaccination
  • Provide counselling on personal hygiene for the mother and the newborn, and advise mothers on their nutrition.
  • Provide counselling on modern contraceptive methods.
  • Provision of modern contraceptive health items available at the health facility.    
  • Ensure proper maintenance of reproductive health and delivery room equipment and supplies
  • Prepare monthly reports on birth spacing, antenatal/postnatal care, and daily use of tally sheets and HMIS forms
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the maternal and child health department
  • Sterilize instruments and equipment used in maternal and child health services
  • Fill out the register book and record essential information about reproductive health clients
  • Complete antenatal checkups, general physical examinations, and verify vaccination cards for TT immunization
  • Conduct daily health education sessions
  • Recommend preventive treatments to women based on national guidelines and protocols
  • Identify women with danger signs and refer them to advance services if necessary
  • Actively participate in infection prevention, HMIS, and quality improvement committees
  • Perform other tasks within the area of expertise, as requested by the supervisor.                 

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Graduated from a midwifery institute and completed of MoPH exam.
  • At least two years of work experience in the related field.
  • Enough experience for IPC and sterilizations. 
  • Technical skills to provide effective, safe family motherhood services.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Dari and Pashtu is a requirement.
  • Priority is given to the local candidates.
  • Culturally flexible and respect a multi-cultural environment
  • Excellent skills in problem-solving and decision-making making 
  • Strong communication skills
