Organization for humanitarian Assistance (OHA), established in the year 12. January. 1994 is an Afghan, non-profit, non-governmental and non- political organization, cooperative partner of UN and other international organizations implementing developmental and humanitarian projects in the southern region of Afghanistan. OHA strives to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) while strictly adhering the humanitarian principles, and key elements of good governance; participation, transparency and accountability. The intention is to alleviate sever suffering, spread awareness, enable people to become self-employed and self-dependent at village, district and city levels for boosting rural and urban economy and livelihood in consultation with donors and local communities.

Job Purpose:

The Child Health Expert is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising all child health-related components within the TDH Resilience Project in Nimroz. The role focuses on improving health knowledge, preventive practices, early childhood care, and access to essential health services for children aged 0–18. The expert works directly with caregivers, health workers, teachers, and community groups to reduce child health risks and improve long-term well-being.

This position plays a vital role in integrating health promotion with socio-economic and community resilience activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct community-based awareness sessions on child health, disease prevention, hygiene, immunization, nutrition, and safe caregiving practices.
• Educate mothers, fathers, caregivers, and adolescents on early childhood development (ECD), breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and home-based care.
• Promote preventive practices for common childhood illnesses (diarrhea, ARI, fever, malnutrition).
• Support campaigns for immunization awareness and child wellness.

• Provide technical support to CHWs, FHs, and community volunteers on child health knowledge and counseling.
• Collaborate with local health facilities to improve referral pathways for sick or malnourished children.
• Support integration of child health messaging into school programs and community centers.
• Provide coaching to teachers and school staff on safe practices and basic child health awareness.

• Promote child safety, injury prevention, and awareness on environmental risks (water sanitation, unsafe play areas, household hazards).
• Ensure integration of child safeguarding and protection principles in all health activities.
• Identify vulnerable children and support referrals to appropriate health, psychosocial, or protection services.

• Develop culturally appropriate training materials and visual aids on child health and early childhood care.
• Train mother groups, youth groups, teachers, and caregivers in essential child care and preventive health practices.
• Build capacity of CHWs and community structures on sustainable, low-cost child health improvements.

• Collect data on child health indicators, session attendance, health knowledge improvements, and behavior changes.
• Provide monthly and quarterly reports to the Health & Nutrition Coordinator.
• Participate in surveys, assessments, and MEAL activities as required.
• Document success stories, challenges, and gaps in child health services.

• Work closely with DoPH, community elders, women groups, and partner NGOs to enhance child health outcomes.
• Participate in district health coordination meetings and relevant technical working groups.
• Collaborate with OHA and TDH livelihood, peace education, and nutrition teams to ensure integrated programming.

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Child Development, Nutrition, or related fields (Master’s preferred).
• Additional training in child health, IYCF, ECD, IMCI, or health promotion is a strong asset.

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience in child health, community health, nutrition, or health education.
• Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, or health projects in Afghanistan.
• Previous work in Nimroz or other remote provinces is highly desirable.
• Experience working with mothers, caregivers, schools, and vulnerable groups.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of child health, child development, growth monitoring, and disease prevention.
• Practical skills in counseling, awareness raising, and facilitating community training.
• Familiarity with IMCI principles, IYCF, hygiene promotion, and early childhood care.
• Understanding of local cultural practices and common child health challenges in Nimroz.
• Basic data collection, assessment, and reporting skills.

Soft Skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong facilitation and community engagement abilities.
• Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and patience when working with children and caregivers.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Good reporting skills in Dari, Pashto, and basic English.
