About Union Aid:

Union Aid (UA) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political humanitarian and development organization established by Dr. Toryalay Nassery (an Afghan scholar) in July 1979 in Peshawar, Pakistan. It was formed in response to the influx of refugees from Afghanistan and was the first/pioneer organization to serve the Afghan refugees in Pakistan. Union Aid implemented its activities mainly in refugee camps that later became villages, which was one of the biggest refugee camps in the world at that time.

UA initiated its activities in Afghanistan in the 1981 and gradually expanded its services all over Afghanistan.

UA started its activities with two doctors and two paramedical staff that gradually expanded to various programs, including:

Health Care & Nutrition: Establishment and management of hospitals and clinics, maternal and child health services, nutrition programs, family planning, as well as full sponsorship and specialized treatment of patients in European countries including Germany, Spain and Italy.

Food Security: Distribution of food items throughout the country.

Education: Literacy initiatives, school management, scholarships for students, and teacher training programs.

Livelihoods & Vocational Skills: Technical training, handicraft production, and employment generation activities to strengthen self-reliance.

WASH & Shelter: Provision of clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, hygiene promotion, and emergency shelters.

Emergency Response: Life-saving interventions including food and non-food distributions, winter relief packages, and rapid health responses during crises.

Agriculture & Environment: Tree plantation and afforestation initiatives to support sustainability and environmental resilience.

Protection: Women empowerment projects, orphanage centers, and demining project.

Cash Assistance: Continuous financial support for needy families and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Job Descriptions:

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain appropriate behavior and good conduct with clinic personnel and clients; respect and adhere to local culture and traditions.
  • Implement and apply new developmental programs.
  • Be committed to duties and comply with established rules and regulations.
  • Participate in trainings and transfer acquired knowledge to other health center staff according to the internal training plan of the health center.
  • Assist in the general administration of the clinic.
  • Responsible for managing and supervising the implementation of Infection Prevention (IP) standards in relevant clinic departments.
  • Responsible for managing and supervising the provision of health education and promotion for clients.
  • Provide direct care to internal medicine and obstetrics/gynecology patients with accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • Manage mild preeclampsia, incomplete abortions, and refer severe preeclampsia and eclampsia cases to equipped centers.
  • Provide Basic and Emergency Obstetric Care (BEmONC).
  • Provide newborn care and treat neonatal infections.
  • Diagnose and treat sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
  • Use national guidelines and updated medical practices.
  • Act in accordance with diagnostic and treatment protocols and standards.
  • Ensure accurate registration and follow-up treatment documentation in the clinic.
  • Responsible for data collection and monthly reporting of the health center.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of on-the-job training for clinic staff.
  • Provide health education on common mental health disorders in Afghanistan in accordance with BPHS.
  • Conduct health promotion, case finding, counseling, treatment, registration, regular reporting, follow-up, and referral of mental health patients and persons with disabilities according to BPHS guidelines to higher-level health facilities.
  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring the Quality Improvement Program in coordination with the community.
  • Conduct case finding, sputum sample collection for suspected patients, registration, follow-up, and treatment of tuberculosis patients according to the DOTS regimen where available.
  • Provide education and awareness to Community Health Workers (CHWs) regarding TB cases under treatment who cannot access the clinic, and ensure regular follow-up by CHWs.
  • Treat malaria patients according to the National Malaria Control Program standards.
  • Diagnose and treat severe anemia due to postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), where possible.
  • Provide quality eye care services to relevant patients.
  • Improve public awareness regarding HIV/AIDS.
  • Recommend HIV testing for TB patients when diagnosed.
  • Participate in the Women’s Health Shura at the clinic level.
  • Responsible for implementing and supervising Rational Use of Drugs (RUD) at the health center.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of new Quality Improvement standards.
  • Conduct case finding, treatment, and referral of mental health patients and persons with disabilities.
  • Conduct case finding, treatment, and referral of patients with eye diseases.

Job Requirements:

  1. MD degree from a recognized university.
  2. At least 3 years of work experience in women’s health (Obstetrics and Gynecology).
  3. Experience in outpatient patient examination.
  4. Skill in using medical equipment related to obstetrics and gynecology.
  5. Good communication skills with patients and the health team.
  6. At least 2 years of experience working under the BPHS program.
