RAADA (Rehabilitation Association and Agriculture Development for Afghanistan) is an Afghan NGO dedicated to improving the lives of rural communities through sustainable agriculture, food security, and rehabilitation initiatives. With decades of experience working in the western region of Afghanistan, RAADA has been instrumental in empowering farmers, rebuilding livelihoods, and providing humanitarian aid to vulnerable populations across Afghanistan. RAADA’s expertise in agriculture, livestock, and community development has made it one of the leading NGOs in addressing the challenges faced by rural communities, particularly in the western region of Afghanistan.
Vento di Terra (VDT) is an Italian NGO renowned for its commitment to human rights, social justice, and sustainable development. In Afghanistan, Vento di Terra has focused on building resilient communities through agriculture, livestock, and disaster risk management. Together, RAADA and Vento di Terra have joined forces to implement the Hari Rud: The Flowing River project, funded by AICS. This collaborative initiative aims to support vulnerable families in five districts of Herat Province by enhancing food security, promoting sustainable agriculture and livestock practices, and strengthening community resilience to natural disasters. Through this project, the two organizations bring complementary expertise to create lasting change for the people of Herat.
Job Description
- Risk Assessment & Analysis
- Conduct hazard mapping, vulnerability assessments, and disaster risk profiling in target communities.
- Identify disaster-related challenges, opportunities, and capacity gaps through field visits and stakeholder consultations.
- Planning & Reporting
- Develop weekly Monthly and annual DRM plans for the targeted areas of the project.
- Prepare and submit timely weekly, monthly and progress reports to the Project manager based on need.
- Capacity Building & Training
- Prepare and design slides and manuals to deliver training programs on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery for local authorities, and community groups.
- Facilitate workshops, simulation exercises, and awareness campaigns to strengthen community resilience.
- Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with government agencies, NGOs, and donor partners to align DRM activities with national frameworks.
- Represent the organization in technical forums, coordination meetings, and emergency response platforms.
- Emergency Response Support
- Participate in rapid assessments and provide technical guidance during disaster events.
- Assist in coordinating relief distribution and recovery planning.
- Mainstreaming DRR
- Integrate disaster risk reduction measures into agriculture, livestock, and livelihood projects.
- Mobilize the community to manage the natural resources and pastures in the best way to make resilience them against drought and climate change.
- Ensure DRM strategies are gender-responsive and inclusive of marginalized groups.
- Other Duties
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Project management team.
Job Requirements
- University degree in Disaster Management, Environmental Science, Agriculture, or related field are preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in disaster risk management, emergency response, or humanitarian programming.
- Strong ability to work with government, donors, NGOs, and community-based organizations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
- Proven organizational and time management skills, with capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with Afghan institutional environment and local governance structures.
- Fluency in Dari and Pashto; English proficiency preferred.
